Reply:Hiiiiyyyy, now if you had bought that item at a workshop closure auction you wouldn't even care if it had a made in wherever ticket on it, you'd be itching to plug it in and fire it up.......live with the knowledge that it's heritage is way beyond your control and enjoy being creative while it lasts, hopefully well beyond the warranty period .....LOLI suppose if you were offered two IDENTICAL items and one said Made In USA and the other said Made in China....price to reflect the origin......which would you choose, noting that even items supposedly made in the US have crap dealership backup and service tech help when the company that made it either drops that model from their preferred inventory, or just goes hard to get to on the phone. The sad history of today means that the customer wants it for nothing and delivered yesterday for free, with a money back guarantee including shipping cost if there is a scratch on the bottom of the paintwork. You can't really blame the manufacturers for their production techniques, who are stiffly in competition with each other to produce the items for less than their competitors can.....most sales are made with customers who only want to see the bottom line on the sales invoice, and if it lasts for the warranty then it's a bonus. How many times have I seen on this forum a welding outfit  that has gone pear shaped because the circuit board has failed for the third time etc.....while it may be under guarantee the hassle of shipping the whole item back to wherever is an enticement to open the casing and have a look to see if anything looks out of place etc, thereby making a simple repair by DIY means a reality and also making a claim under warranty if it's worse null and void.If it works as described and within the design parameters, but you're concerned about the life expectancy, then inquire about an extended warranty.Ian.

Reply:From the Federal Trade Commission website:  (Regarding "Made in USA" claims....)http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bu...e-usa-standardAlso, search that site and the FTC site for "made in USA".  There are many links describing the qualifications for "made in USA", "assembled in USA", etc.
Reply:BTW, judging by the amount of crap welding machinery being bought primarily because it's cheap, it would seem that a fringe market is hovering in the wings for "good" replacement parts made in the USA and supplied at cost. This should guarantee that the item would live forever, or at least until the next compoment in the chain broke down and needed replacing.Making replacement parts in the home market would create a job market, and confidence in the knowledge that Made In USA means quality......if it ain't so....don't go labeling the Chinese stuff as crap when you can't do better yourselves.Eventually the penny would  drop and the home market would be producing all the components needed to make the complete items, except for a new logo Made in China, Completely Remade in The People's Republic of USA....LOLIan.

Reply:Well at least my Hobarts American lol... While on the subject I've been looking at reciprocating saws and even the Milwaukee's said "assembled" in the USA , I figure because a majority of the internals are foreign.  I was reading somewhere online that the most power tools actually manufactured today in the USA is by Makita, a Japanese company, I guess that's the way it is these days...
Reply:Wouldn't stop me from getting a Milwaukee saw though, we used them 10 hours a day on a job that required absolutely no hot cutting.  It was for a Shell ship fueling station in the Burrard inlet in Vancouver BC, we had to remove some of the fuel lines running the length of a large pier that was used to fill ships and other large marine equipment.  Those saws were great!

Reply:I called Miller before I purchased my little Multimatic.  They were helpful and explained only a few pieces on the circuit board are imported.  He said less than 3% of the machine was imported.  Same went for all of their inverter machines.  I would imagine this would be same for Hobart.BTW, if you have an older Dynasty that says "made in USA", it has some foreign parts.  They just changed the language on their label.

Reply:Originally Posted by shovelonWell they could vindicate themselves if they ever release that Dynasty280. That would be a world beater. I was fortunate to test drive a beta unit. Man it was bitchen. The wifie gave me a green light to get one so I can take the 200 home.Well I have done quite a bit of probing. The issue with the Dynasty280 is that it is housed in an enclosure a bit bigger than the 200. They are experiencing premature board failure. They think it is a cooling problem. I suspect that it is the communication port picking up interference and causing software issues. You know they had the Dynasty300 for a while, and it was housed in a larger enclosure and worked fine. I was super impressed with the EZ version, which has synergistic setup. Like the Diversion, you set the material, material thickness, and done. All else is figured by engineered parameters. Then you can micro adjust the amps. They said you can access the parameter screen and tune the gas flows and start sequence, but they did not show that. The big noise was that with the EZ or DX is that downloadable programs and settings could be accessed thru your smartfone and transferred at the machine via a port cable, card, or wireless. The possibilities were endless in my mind, including remote diagnostics.
