Picked up a Miller 211 last week and finally got it out of the box and wired up the garage for the proper plug. Here's a picture of my welds on manual setting. The sheet metal is 16g steel.Welds are from right to left. The weld with the burn through, is that repairable or do you have to cut it out and weld a patch in place?thanks,-Destin Attached Images
Reply:you can just fill it in use short weld to fill it in letting it cool between welds low amps. the 3 one looks good
Reply:I'd try a little thicker metal to start with. Welding that thin material is hard for even experienced welders (which I'm not) but when I do thin stuff I have to really tweak the settings with a couple of practice pieces to get it right. Try to find some thick stuff and lay some welds on that to get a feel for it. Post a lot more details and the more experienced welders here will be sure to help you.Lincoln Pro Mig 180Everlast PowerARC 200
Reply:Try welding some 1/4" that would be easier. If your welding something thin, try to weld and stop every second or two; that way you will not burn through. Thin stuff is hard to start out on. I have a 211 with the auto set feature as well. The auto set is close, but I find you still have to tweak the settings a little. You picked a good machine to start out on.
Reply:I'll mess around with this piece till it's shot then I'll pick up some 1/4" stuff to practice on. I'll try to fill in that burn through then I'll cut a piece off and try to tack it back on. This piece warped pretty good. I'll post another pic tonight when I get off work.-Destin
Reply:I did a few more practice welds tonight but I didn't feel like taking any pictures. Some of the welds looked better than yesterday and I didn't have any burn throughs. I also repaired the burn through from yesterday. I just welded small amounts around the hole till it was sealed up. I flipped it over and reinforced the back a little and ground both sides down. I also cut a corner off and welded it back on. I only have 2 C clamps and a small magnet. I figured good clamps can make a job go along a little easier so I guess thats a good excuse to buy more tools. . I have to learn to be a little more patient with this. Stop and let it cool before I proceed with more.-Destin
