Profax Finger Tip control

I just picked up a Profax LFTC-6 finger tip control for a Lincoln tig. I only gave $10.00 because he said the guy plugged it in to a wrong welder and smoked it. I really don't want to plug it into my Commander to double check if it works, for fear of smoking something on the welder. Just wondering if anyone knows if this can be repaired? I will call Profax tomorrow and see what they say. Also, just wondering if, once fixed, can it be used on my Commander? I know it says Square Wave and Invertec only, I don't know if my Commander is considered a Square Wave. Notice the little bulge on the bottom of the amperage controller. Reply:Definitely has that melted-plastic look. I don't think you can damage the welder by plugging in a bad remote, worst it can do is to not work. Any Lincoln TIG welder manual will have the pin-out for the plug, but 2 of the pins are a switch, and 3 of them are a 5K potentiometer.As to whether it will work on a commander, that is a question for Profax. Reply:Thanks guys. Yeah, I figured I could get a female end and use it as an extension for a new one. It is a sealed potentiometer. And looking in the Tig 300/300 manual, it uses the same Amptrol's as the Commander, so I bet this wouldn't work anyway. Reply:Corn huskers lotion is the best for that. I carry it to work when I'm doing mechanical work, then forget to use it.
