Just wondering if you guys would fix this ? I am a mechanic by trade, no way would I attempt to weld this. Just wondering what experienced guys think.  The head is cast iron. The customer just wants to put a new engine now, both heads are cracked. Thanks,Dave
Reply:Hard to say much without a good picture, or at least some detailed description.

Reply:You can weld them if you can get to the crack...then you need to finish it off with a mill or a dia grinder if its some where outta the way..it'll never be great, but good enough for most mums and dads to run around withLast edited by satanzhand; 06-06-2011 at 06:48 AM.

Reply:I stand by my answer.  It's good enough for a forum and a question with little detail.  The guy just wants to know is it possible and the answer is yes.  I can't imagine Dave is going to run off, after reading my two sentence worth and bird s**t  weld a cast block and put it back on the Flying St Mary's Children's hospital emergency services Rolls Royce plane engine.lighten up,

Reply:Dave,Do a search on member castweld threads and you'll see what can be done to repair cracked and damaged heads - both cast iron and aluminum from grocery getter to high performance.I've personally witnessed him perform his skill and definately wouldn't bet against anyone that might claim he could weld a head back together that was broken in two.DuaneMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Dave is asking about this specific head which we (and you too) know nothing about, except that it's one of two that are broken. Dave says he doesn't have the ability to do the work so it would have to be 'farmed out' and paid for,  unless you are offering to do it for free. Are you offering those services? Will you guaranty the work will be successful and will last, or pay for the lost time and the extra efforts spent when replacing the engine later if your repairs fail?[/QUOTE]Oldiron2,Dave's only specifics are; 1) The head is Cast Iron, 2) Would you guys fix this? The answer to the first question, can you weld a Cast Iron head is: ... yes you can.The second question is rhetorical at its root, this means Dave is not asking if anyone on this forum is wanting this job, he is in fact asking; is it at all possible or worth investigating getting someone to do this job.If English is your second language, I'm sorry if I am making fun of you.
