Sorry if this has been asked before. What is the procedure for Mig welding items of different thickness? How do you get good penetration without burning through the thinner stock?ThanksPat
Reply:I am new too, and what I have gathered is to use smaller wire and spend more time on the thicker piece as you stitch the two together. You can pull the puddle over to the thicker piece if it looks like the thinner piece is getting too much heat. I have been messing around with sort of a C type stitch where the tips of the C are in the thin piece and the longer curvy part of the C are on the thicker piece. It does seem to be working, and I cut through a piece of 16 gauge welded to 11 gauge and it looks like the weld has good penetration on both parts (but I don't have anything to etch the weld with...)Take this explanation with a grain of salt, because I am a total newb at MIG.
