Does anybody have pictures of some cool metal furniture? I've been wanting to make some cool patio furiture. I'll post some pictures I found on the internet that I though were pretty cool. Surely some of you guys have some pictures too. The first picture is my drawing of what i'm thinking about making first.

Reply:FYI a corrugated chase lounge is probably not the best idea considering how sharp the edges are. I made a sled out of corrugated as a kid, and almost cut my finger off just sitting on it. All precautions were taken such as removing burrs from the edges and what not. so if you do make a corrugated chair put some sort of rubber liner on the side or take a piece of 1/4" rubber hose and split it down the middle and glue it on the sides.
Reply:Yeah I was planning on putting a rubber hose on the edges. They sell a rubber trim at auto part stores that I could probably use.
Reply:One problem in making furniture that is usually not considered is weight. Eventually it all has to be moved around and heavy furniture is not good for most people. Don't forget to think about it.A friend built a chair completely out of horse shoes once. It weighed so much you couldn't move it with out havig three guys with you. It was basically worthless.

Reply:Three things CMC:I think the corru. lounger would be cool( well maybe not!) I wouldn't glue on material. If you're going for the look of corru., glue on material will ruin it. People can buy their own lounge chair pad. As funny as it is, sometimes "art" or "sculptural" furniture designs sacrifice function for form. Like couture fashion. More art than practical.  You could adhere closed cell foam solid tubes in the low recesses of the corrugated sheet. You still get the look of the corru., with some padding built in. Just thinking out loud here. Also, be careful about posting images of others work. Especially in the context of looking to build similar things. I know you are not asking how to copy these items, but they are created by others. Do you have permission to use the images? Through my site, I track all postings that people make that use my images. If I don't like the context of it's use, I have it taken down. I don't worry about "permission" for folks that post my images in reviews or on blogs that they are showing items that they like. Free advertising for me! But I had, for example, had an image used on a company site advertising their services, presenting my work as theirs.  That don't fly!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:"Lol well I wasn't posting their pictures because I want to make something like that. I was simply posting them because I thought they were cool.As you can see, what I want to make isn't really anything like the pictures that I posted." - It was somewhat alluded to, but that may not have been your intention. "If someone thinks it's not ok to post these pictures then I will remove them. Just thought I would share some pictures that I thought were really cool. If anything, I'm giving props to the people who built them, and not calling them mine in any way."- You haven't given "props" in anyway. You didn't give the artist/designers name, website link, or company name. That would be giving them their due. Not trying to be a dik in anyway. I just don't like artists, in particular, going unrecognized when their work is used by others. As for your chair, how about a blow-up sheet metal pillow to go with it? I think you should build it. Materials aren't expensive, unless you use S.S. for the frame. ( but I'd prototype in mild steel, .063 wall tube would work). Get those curves right and you could have a sexy chair. I like designs that use "off the shelf" materials, re-purposed. If you get a heavy gauge corrugated, you might be able to wire brush, sanding mop or buff the edges so they won't be sharp.  Check out Marc Newson's "Lockheed Lounge"........*drool*! This piece got him very recognized.http://www.marc-newson.com/ProjectIm...nique%20PiecesPS....glad to see someone else on here that's interested in furniture and design!!! Welcome to the gong show! Reply:Damn that chair is badass... I wish I had those skills. I plan on making the frame out of steel pipe. Just a simple inexpensive frame.

Reply:It is a sculpture. All your imperfections are now called ART!  That is what my friends tell me. We are on our way to being farmers! Our site is always under construction so check back often for updates.  http://www.philosophyfarmstyle.com/
