Reply:Forgive me, is Schedule 40 pipe made of mild steel?
Reply:i sometimes jump to a #12 if its 6" or above. the death grip does get me from time to time, but its mostly the hardware in my wrist. got a couple screws and a plate in there. really doesnt bother me until i do alot of movements like cup walking. but its not something that screws me up or makes me quit, just tightens up from time to time.... but most of the chit i do is on 2" 80 and 160, so the bigger cups dont really work that, beleive me, i've tried...lol
Reply:Think I did most of that with a jumbo #8 or #10 cup.  Just whatever I have and feel like working with.
Reply:Here is another weld I did last night.  It was 6 in sch 40 with 1/8" gap for the root.  Put the root in at around 130ish amps and got the elusive gold color!  One of the first times I have been able to do that on carbon.  Hot pass went in around 175 then fill and cap pass at 205.  All in all it was about 30mins worth of welding in the fixed 5G position. Reply:Ok Ok just a few more from work last night.  This is it I promise lol.  The first is my hot pass and second pic my cap.  My fitter tried welding one quarter on my pipe and when he was done said "Dang, you weren't kidding when you said you were running hot.  I didn't see a puddle when I arc'd up.  It was a pond!"  I about died laughing!  Anyway, not bad for someone with 6 months experience huh?
