This little unit seems like a good deal for under $500. I'd like to learn TIG and stick. Could it do 1/8" steel?I have the Lincoln for bigger jobs.Has anyone here used one? Happy with it for a home hobbyist uses?RyanLincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
Reply:If you need the portability it may not be bad.  I wouldn't pay over 400 for one with torch, reg., etc. though.  And if you don't need the portability just get a Hobart or Miller Thunderbolt ACDC stick machine and do scratch start tig off of it.  It will provide much more power.  The TA95 only puts out 90A in stick mode, which in my opinion is barely adequate to use 3/32 7018.Engineer/CWI/Welder
Reply:I'd get the bigger stick machine. You can't turn up amps you don't have, and transformer machines are famously durable. Find a used Dialarc or Idealarc, make a cart for it, and enjoy more power and a smoother arc for the price of a new buzzbox. The classic mistake buyers make is buying a little welder, then being forced to upgrade later. Power is good.
Reply:look at the duty cycle of it... and then you'll rethink. at least i did...

Reply:Thanks for the insightful responses. I will save for the right deal to come along on a "real" machine.Lincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
