Does anyone here have any experience welding on Aluminum Dump Truck Bodies or Frames? I have a Hewey Aluminum Grain Body on a Mack tri axle that the frame is cracking on and needs fixed. Have a Spoolmatic 30A and 4043 wire. Just wondering best way to go about it. How about a backing pad of some sort so I don't blow thru the cracks after i grind them out? thanks.

Reply:Is that made from sheet alum or plate. How thick?Whatever 4043 is not the alloy filler I would choose. 5356 is much stronger.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Never done any frame work on an alum body, but I've patched a few holes in the floor and walls on occasion. Personally I'd avoid alum frame repairs. I just see way to many liabilities and possible pit falls..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:call the manufacturer and find out what alloy they used to make it and maybe a weld procedure if your lucky but doubtful then you can decide on a filler according to what alloy it actually is vee it out stop drill it and weld it up with the correct filler that is some pics would help and call in to the manufacturerLast edited by WeldorWes; 03-04-2013 at 12:55 AM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
