I work for an upstate NY municipality and have a question concerning welding on vehicles, trailers and equipment that travels on the road. I was told by my boss that you do not need a DOT welding certification to weld on any of these items, be it a truck, boat trailer, tratctor etc.... Does anyone know what the standards are for this? If this is true, what is a DOT cert issued for? Is this another case of a municipality being exempt from a rule, similar to not having to obtain a crane license if you work for a municipality? Thanks guys, just trying to find some answers out on this.
Reply:I held CT DOT certs, they were for doing bridge work on CT roadways. Had to qualify to there specs and be witnessed by a DOT inspector, and then the coupons were cut and bent by CT DOT materials testing, Nothing fancy, 1" backing strip root, 1 vertical up, 1 overhead for all around unlimited thickness with 7018. Also did same procedures with innershield, 203 nickel."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400 |
