Coming up soon I will be doing alot of plasma cutting, just designs into sheet metal. Question for you guys is has anyone tried to cut a piece but have to sheets of metal underneath thus resulting in 2 identical parts and only having to cut once? would that would work or would all the edges fuse together?
Reply:I have done it with 1/8" and 1/4" but never tryed it with sheet metalwww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:Works great, provided your plasma cutter has enough "horsepower" to cut now a thicker piece of metal.  If your plasma is only rated to cut (not sever) 1/4" for instance, doubling up that steel twice (1/4" + 1/4" = 1/2"), your machine will just make an ugly mess with an unsightly kerf and dross that looks like it came out of the Krakatoa volcano. Reply:This is done often with sheet metal. The trick to best cut quality is to keep the pieces tight to each other with no air gap. I had a customer in Tx that would stack up to 10 pieces of .090" aluminum and cut them with the 260 amp Hypertherm high definition plasma  (HPR260XD).....always did the same parts so he built a steel weight that sat on top of the aluminum stack to hold them together. The parts were semi-round, about 8' in diameter. This process was a huge time saver.Jim Colt  Hypertherm Originally Posted by mike7466Coming up soon I will be doing alot of plasma cutting, just designs into sheet metal.
