The customer supplied the keg and awesome stand. Everything is stainless except for the small galvanized pipe. The expanded was trimmed with 18 ga plate, folded over.  The smoker box is 10ga.  The job took about 8 hours and was welded with tig and mig. This was a down and dirty job. I'm not real happy about how it turned out, but it's what the customer wanted. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:man i want one..how much did everything cost if you mind? all i can think about is smoke salmon
Reply:The part you did turned out pretty good. There should be a damper on top of the stack like you made for the air intake on the fire box, this would help hold in the smoke better and provide better control of heat. The threaded pipe base is the main thing that looks more amaturish and detracts from the overall look of the project. A set of wheels would also be a nice addition to improve portability. Maybe he will come back in the future for upgrades and you can add these, damper and wheels. Maybe you could talk him into a more awesome all welded base design. Not to mention a shelf on the front instead of over on the end where it is now. But if that's what he wants thats what he ends up with. I can see why your not totally happy with the outcome, these upgrades would make it a better rig altogther.Last edited by Bistineau; 07-17-2011 at 07:13 PM.
Reply:There's a little over 100 bucks in s.s. added to it. Nothing wrong with salmon. A damper came to mind a few times. Wheels came to mind also. If it does well, I'm sure he'll be back to do some modifications and I'll try to sell him on those. Personally, I think the smoker box is about half what it should be. And I would rig up a controllable vent in between the main area and the box.OH.... And Here is a close-up of the box hinge. I tried it the first time and the nut clinched down on the bolt so hard that I had to cut it off. The second try, I bathed them in never seize and it threaded just fine. Reply:Hey works for the customer and looks good enough for me too.  Not everything has to be a Rembrandt ;.  I'm always amazed at those folks that try and start to put things together with pipe and fittings like he did there. Next thing you know they are $50.00 into fittings and it's crooked and sloppy, never will be tight. My son brought over what was supposed to be a pitching screen awhile back. Same thing, all fittings and wouldn't hold itself up. I wedled some up and cut the rest out and welded pipe to pipe. Solid as could be after that.
