Well I decided to build a new mailbox for my family and my neighbor which is my grandmother. How kewl is that? They are going to be 8''x8''x3/8'' wall cut down to 20'' long each.I will use one of the scrap drop off for a plant holder. Probably be a cactus.Anyways here is some pics of the build. Attached ImagesLast edited by ToolBoxTavern; 05-17-2011 at 11:46 PM.We are on our way to being farmers! Reply:I don't know.  Do you think that it is built heavy enough? ars sine scientia nihil est
Reply:The one that is double gusseted is for bills and advertisements and the one with the single gusset is for checks and thank you cards.
Reply:Gonna take more then a cherry bomb to blow those up.

Reply:I just got off phone with local post office and they said out where I am if I make it the right height and break away I could make it as decorative as I want. So I gave them my phone number and asked them to give it to the mail/postal employee that makes the deliveries and if they could suggest anything else I could do to make their job easier. We are on our way to being farmers! Reply:Can't wait until someone does a drive-by batting practice on one of them. Would love to see their face when the bat explodes but the mailbox doesn't budge.

Reply:Go big or go home right? lol. My mailbox sits on top of a locomotive rod & piston weighing several hundred pounds with no break away. It completely destroyed the subaru that had a slight run in with it at 75mph Definitely interested in seeing these finished!Previous owner of my house took a fairly large anchor chain and welded the links then cemented it into the ground. This is the stand for the regulation made of tin mailbox that sits on top. Been hit several times since I have been here. Stand was moved over a lttle as the dirt around the foundation moved, the mailbox itself took a beating, but the anchor chain has not a scratch. The cars that hit it on the other hand.........I like havining immovable objects in my front yard when living in a corner house..MLM

Reply:about thirty years ago, in orange county california, i was working as a sheet metal mechanic.   a company down the street wanted a mail box for their business,  they wanted #4 brushed SS.  the same style as the type that you reach pull the handle to open and insert the mail.  only on a smaller scale; app 1/2 size.   so i built it, put it in place, even raised it so that it was the same height as previous standard box.post office would not deliver mail to it,  we received a book of dimension requirements for fabricating mailboxes according to USPS standards.  as i recall it was about a hundred pages.  (i could be wrong there, but it was long and involved)anyway, project died shortly after install, box is probably in a storage facility with the Ark of the Covenant.
Reply:i'll tell you what, after looking at that piece of junk if i was a letter carrier i wouldn't put the mail in it, how could you put that up in front of where you live?
