I am trying to buid a box blind for my step dad that sits on a trailer while he is hauling it and when he gets to the field he can raise it about 6 or 7 foot in the air. He was in a car accident and is now handicapped so he cant climb a ladder. I have a box blind that is about 4'W 4'L 7' H and it will be going on a 5x8 trailer. I have a 3000lb winch with remote that i can use or can get anything else you can think of to raise it. Please any ideals or pictures of something like it will help alot.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:KISSI've got two options for you. if you've got a winch I would put 4 post on the trailer. to match up with the 4 corners on the blind. then use pulleys and the winch cable to pull the blind up. benefits; blind fits on the trailer mentioned and can be adjusted vertically by different length post. Cons, possible uneven pulling with the pulley system.Option number two.4 legs mounted to the trailer, and the 4 corners of the blind. These legs are mounted to the trailer and blind on pivot points. and when they are vertical all 4 are parallel. a fifth post is mounted on the trailer and is as tall as the blind will be when fully vertical. The winch line goes over a pulley at the top of the fifth to the blind. when the winch is pulled in the blind goes up. when the winch is released the blind goes down. This happens in an arch, as apposed to vertically like the first one. Benefits, simplicity of the design. Cons, to get the height you want, you wouldn't be able to get the blind and supports you would want on the trailer. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:My 1st thought would be some sort of scissors lift as the most stable..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:ThorsHammer i though about the first one u said but i think it would pull up uneven like u said and jam up. It prob would go up but would be really loud and rough ride for him. ha and the second one im not sure what you are talking about but i think u mean make it where it folds down on its side and if so he needs to be able to get inside and lift it up and he cant climb to get in.DSW i have been looking for one fairly cheap and have people looking for me one but have not came across one yet that works but that is one plan i have down just have to find the lift. Thats the hard part. Thanks alot for the post and keep them coming pleaseEquipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:One plan i have down is have one peice of about 5" or 6" sq tubing about 7 ft tall and a peice that will slide tight on it and make platform welded to it with a ear coming off to hook winch to and put pulley on top of the 7ft peace and winch on trailer where it pulls it straight up and where u can open a little door on blind to slide a peice of flat through both to rest on so all the stress wont be on the cable the whole time.  but am still worried about how well it will slide with not pulling from the center afraid it will keep getting jammed up and might not be to stable.   we also have a old stair lift with a chair on it that uses chains to take it up the stairs but it is aluminum and i dont have a way to weld that yetEquipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:go look at a 2 post car lift a auto shop and get some ideas off of it just figure a lock as a safety device and where to place some rollers or some kind of brass sleeve if you use pipe  Lincoln Power Arc 4000 Thermal Arc Fabricator 252 iThermal arc 186Thermal Arc 26 tigTweeko 200 amp spool gunHobart AirForce 400WP-17V-12R
Reply:I dont know how much traveling you will do with this rig but I have seen some that the blind was built 5 or 6 feet off the trailor and they had a lift just for the wheelchair. Cant really remember the specifics.Kind of like the lifts they have in vans for wheelchairs except taller.
Reply:Don't know where he is hunting so this may not work but what about building the blind 4 ft off the ground and just use a ramp.  Where I hunt we only have the blind 1-3 ft off the ground.  I need to level the area around Dads blind so I can add a ramp.  He's only been hunting twice seens getting the chair.
Reply:I was thinking along the lines of a four post car lift this will give you max stability. the lifts that i have seen use hydraulic and cables to lift. You could use your winch to replace the hydraulic portion.
Reply:the price is ridiculous but idea is here.  http://www.adaptiveoutdoorsman.com/vm-ts02.html

Reply:If done right the second one would lay, and lift, level and flat for him to sit on. if you look, I said all 4 legs are pivoted. the best thing I can compare it to would be an adjustable basketball hoop. there are 4 bars total. pivoted on both ends.  as the backboard is raised and lowered it stays vertical the whole time. same principal, just horizontal. the only thing you'd have to do to get it to lay flat/lower all the way, is is raise the bottom pivot point on the front two legs, and lower the top pivot point on the back two legs. as long as the distance between the top and bottom pivots are the same on the front two legs compared to the back two legs the blind would stay level through the entire cycle of raising and lowering.you mentioned not wanting it to be to loud. I would suggest to you that towing a trailer into a hunting area will be loud. especially one full of metal that can bounce and vibrate.I think no matter what you do, every moving part will need to have bushings and or "guide" (some sort of hard plastic that prevents metal to metal contact) to keep it quiet along with large amounts of lubricant to keep everything moving smoothly and as quietly as possible. but I think no matter what you use its going to be loud. especially when compared to the nature sounds around where you're trying to deploy it.There are no problems. Reply:http://www.floeintl.com/default.asp?...atedTowerStandThis system is great we have two of their boat lifts and have yet to fail us(same idea as boat lifts). you can download the manual s for them with in detailed drawings of how the system works. you can use your winch with this type of system.

Reply:The one from Floeintl.com is the one he said he wanted it like i just have to figure out how all the pulleys and cables run and pick up up on all four corners. We down loaded the manual and it showed some of it but still dont show how the cables run.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies

Reply:the easiest way to make all four corners pull at the same speed is to have 4 equal length cables that wrap around a central shaft. the winch cable also wraps around said shaft, just when the post cables are wound up, the winch cable isn't and as the winch is released, the weight of the plate form winds up the winch cable, that way when you pull the winch cable in it winds the post cables up again, and raises the platform. this will eliminate any balance issues that could cause a single line system to pull one side faster than the others. There are no problems. Reply:I agree with Thorshammer - one important issue will be keeping it quiet.  Usually, you put a blind up several months before the season opens, so the game can get used to it, or even leave it there year-round. You're talking about hauling a trailer out to the hunting area with a lot of clanging metal, a motor running, and who knows what kind of noise cranking the thing upwards.  In my experience, what you're describing would scare off every deer in the county. You might look for alternatives. Maybe find a higher location to put the blind in the first place, some kind of rise or slope.  Does it REALLY need to be up high?  A ground level blind's just fine if it's been there a while and the deer are used to it.That being said, here's something you might check out:http://www.carolinagrowlerinc.com/
Reply:the carolina growler lift uses the second suggestion I gave, save it uses hydrolics, instead of cables. 4 equal lenght legs pivoted at both ends. as long as the legs are parallel the lift goes up flat. just offset the pivot points to alow the unit to lay flat. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
