starting point for miller 304 with optima control and prince spool gun

Just got a 304 and the adapter to use my Prince spool gun with the Optima control. I can't seem to find a manual online. Can anyone give me a starting point for welding 1/8" Al        (5356 .035)? I've tried the .035 Al setting, but am not sure where to start with pulse length and wire speed, and I'm not sure if I can and how to adjust voltage. I'm running pretty hot with the basic settings. Thanks in advance.
Reply:With the Optima in synergic pulse mode, there is no user adjustment for voltage.  You set the wire speed on the gun and the Optima sets the voltage automaticaly according to the wire speed and what program you're in.  If you want it colder, turn the wire speed down.  Since there is no digital display for wire speed on the XMT or the gun, you just have to set it by 'feel'.  Be sure you're in the 5356 AL .035 program, not the 4043 program.  I use 4043 wire and usually run the arc length low, from 0 to 3 range.  Longer arc length means a hotter puddle.  You can also adjust the puddle wetness by turning up or down the Arc Control on the XMT (far left knob).  If you go out of synergic pulse mode and use manual mig mode on the Optima, you can set voltage on the Optima and there is no Arc Length adjustment.  In manual mig mode, you operate just as if the Optima were not connected to the machine, except voltage is adjusted on the Optima instead of the XMT.   Don't mess with the manual pulse mode, it's hella confusing and you're not likely to ever find the 'right' combination of adjustments of all the different controls as there are way to many of them.  If anyone can successfully set the manual pulse mode on an Optima, my hat's off to them.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
