and I couldn't find the answer using the search.Has anyone done a spring over coversion on a drop axle? I've seen kits that you don't weld the new perch on, you just use spacers between it and the original perch to prevent the perch from moving. these were made by drake. I've also seen grind welds and reweld the original perch on top of an axle (typically automotive purposes). I've already purchased new perches. Do I need to remove the original perch? as the only thing it may do is pick up some long grass if I take the trailer through a feild. it wont interfere with anything. would I need to worry to much about weakening the axles at the perchs by welding the new perches on directly across from the original perches? I can make spacers like the kit has to do it that way, but to me it just seems like a way to be able to sell the kit to someone who doesn't have a decent welder, or know someone who does. There are no problems. Reply:i ve been dropping trucks for years i even have a small business now because lowered vehicles are the in thing anyway theres no problem leaving the old perches in place but when you weld on your new perches on make sure you get the pinion angle right other wise youll start spitting out u-joints but you can just grind off the old perches it looks much cleaner
Reply:this is a trailer, so no pinion to worry about. but thanks for the response. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I don't suppose there is any big reason to remove the old perches, except that I like my jobs to looks professional, and not like an afterthought. Otherwise just weld the perches on and be done. Kind of silly to have a drop axle with a spring over though.
Reply:you use what you've got. and it's a lot cheaper to buy perches than to buy axles. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger |
