Well, we needed one for our rental property. After looking at Home Depot and Lowes, I damn near cried. They're so overpriced. I searched and could only find one thread on here about them. I pretty much copied Sandy's design, and scaled it up slightly. It's 3' wide top table at 30" tall, chairs are at 20".It's going to be 8' long. I haven't decided on the width of the bench yet, but I'm leaning towards 12". It's bargain bin 2.5" 11g square tubing. Got it for a bit under 40 cents a pound. Bought 40' of it, and it looks like I'm going to actually need a few feet more! Total weight was ~170 if I remember right.I appologize though. I needed to whip this up quickly. I freehand plasma cut all the tubing, and welded it together. I didn't bother grinding it, so fitup was pretty poor in some places. Needless to say, I burned through a few times. 5/32 6013 @ 110A 'dig' set to 65% on the dynasty 200dx. Total time to finish, 2.5 hours not counting drilling for the bolts, having to go to lowes and home depot to get enough carriage bolts, or me dropping it on my foot.  I'll post more pictures later!Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:are you going to put any gusseting or cross members to keep the wood from flexing to bad? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Now just add two pieces to tie the two ends together. One at the top and another about a foot or so down. At the least, one at the top with a large gusset to each leg. This will keep them from wobbling side to side. Don't rely on just the 2Xs to provide rigidity, it will work the bolts thru the wood if you don't. Then you will have to go back and do it again.. Don't forget to cap the ends of the tubing to prevent wasps from building in there, they can mess up a picnic real quick.
Reply:Well, yes. I didn't have enough tubing left to do the gussets. There is a middle section going.up and a top cross bar. Then gussets.. all of that has to be 2" 11g because I used pretty much all the 2.5" tube. I uploaded a pic from my phone but can't reside it on the phone.. click the link http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...p/IMAG1144.jpgIt's real messy right now!Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:Looking like a good start on it.  It'll be plenty solid when you get the members in between on there. Everything always works out in your head to be just a couple of hours. Then two days later .."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:Just a suggestion but picnic tables always have a habit of getting moved around a lot. Since you are in the building phase I would stick a couple of 1" id pieces of pipe on the ends of each leg. This way you could put a couple of lawn mower wheels, etc on small axles that would simply slip in and then you lift the other end of the table and move it to where ever you like.I have a horse shelter to build and I am going to do the same thing with it....just a little bigger scales wheels.Great job so far. Where in Texas are you?Glenn.Sign on East Texas payphone: Calls to God 40 cents......it's a local call...
Reply:ThorsHammer, Drunk driver hit me head on last year and did me in pretty good. That was my 500hp 12v cummins 5speed manual, 4x4... It looks like the drivetrain is still good but I haven't felt good enough recently to actually take her apart. The good news is, I had my PowerMax 45, my Passport, 20lb co2 tank, and lots of tools in my RKI chest. Bed twisted, box opened up, Powermax 45 ended up in my bed. Dented to hell. I called Hypertherm, they told me just to plug it in! If it didn't work to send it in. I was REAL scared too. A few weeks passed until I could move again, and the damn thing worked without a hitch! The passport's rear panel got pushed in, gas port got broken off etc, but I fixed that with 20 dollars at the LWS. The liner got broken, put a replacement in, but something is still not right. I think the end of the mig gun (where it enters the unit) got tweaked because it will work fine then stop feeding for half a second then keep going. Unfortunately that's usually enough to burn the wire back into the contact tip! So it's just been sitting.NSFW of my old dodge ;( video, the ex-gf cusses once while videotaping. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LZIFxd-VKE[/ame]My NEW replacement truck: http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...p/IMAG1041.jpg (chipped, double disc clutch, 2010 4x4 6.7 cummins) Truthfully, in the last 1.5 years, this is pretty much the first welding job I've done. The only other thing I've done is make a memorial for my puppy of 17.5 years when she passed in October of last year. Memorial:http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/IMAG0801.jpgPlasma cut free hand from 1/4" plate. The name looks like that, because I found an old note from when I was 11 or so, that had her name and it looked exactly like that. So I figured that's what will go on her memorial! Her name was in pink but for some reason the 'Safety Fluorescent Pink' faded after 3 months, even with a good metal primer, 3 coats of pink, then 2 of clear. The roses are 1/8 twisted 308l SS filler wire with 1/8" flatstock I rough torchcut, then heated red and textured on my tiny anvil with my oxy torch. I brazed everything togetherhttp://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/IMAG0807.jpghttp://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/IMAG0802.jpgI appologize, I lost the original pictures, and don't want to resize these because I'm lazy. That's why I didn't use any of my saws (they don't have stands) I just plasma cut everything on my table, and didn't bother grinding it so the fitup was poor on the table to just get it done. As far as wheels go, unfortunately this is going to be at a rental property (my family just built an RV park in Encinal) and it's going to be chained down in one spot (still moveable by a few feet, it's between two trees for shade) but we don't want it 'walking away' from us.Well, I've copied and pasted a few things, and now I don't think my post makes sense anymore. Sorry for making you have to click links, but most of them are worth it, I assure you Edit: Forgot to addPictures of my truck:http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...e/IMAG0764.jpghttp://i693.photobucket.com/albums/v...h/IMG_0265.jpgI don't recommend getting in a combined 100+mph head on crash. They aren't too much fun. Except the pills, they're fun til you realize you're going to be on them til you're dead. It kind of kills the enjoyment factor.Last edited by JohnR; 08-27-2011 at 02:27 PM.Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
