I had to lay a full tank down. (Pure argon). Can I use it right away (1-2 hours) or does it need to 'settle' upright? Thanks!Motorboating...in the Cleavage of the Tetons
Reply:No, argon is pure gas, just compressed. There is no liquid in the cylinder and no settling needed.
Reply:Excellent. I thought so, but wasn't sure. Better safe than sorry!Motorboating...in the Cleavage of the Tetons
Reply:As a reminder, make sure the valve is fully backseated when opened. It must be fully open or packing may leak.
Reply:Excuse my ignorance, but what is packing, exactly?Motorboating...in the Cleavage of the Tetons
Reply:It's the material in the valve that actually seals it. The valve should be fully opened to prevent wasting gas from leakage through the packing. This pertains to Argon, oxygen, etc. but not fuel cylinders. They should be opened just enough to provide gas, in case they need to be shut off in a hurry."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Only acetylene needs to stand upright for a certain amount of time if the cylinder was placed on its side.  I usually transport acetylene tanks on their side and let them stand upright for a day before the first use.  Oxy, argon, C02', helium and even propane can be placed on its side, upside down or whatever and can be used immediately upon being positioned upright.
