TV Wall Mount

Got a 32" tv when I bought the new matress for the bed I posted a couple weeks ago. Well yesterday my wife said she was tired of the tv sitting on the dresser, so 5 minutes later I was in the garage building a bracket out of left overs from the bed. About two hours later I was dry fitting it in the bedroom and then it was into the attic to wire an outlet and cable drop. I still need to give it a coat of paint but that can wait, I didn't feel like doing it last night.The build... Attached Images

Reply:with all due respect, i believe that design results in a lot of unecessary monumentum on the two lag bolts. it looks pretty beefy, so im sure it would hold regardless, but i honestly think you would have been better off rotating  it 90 degrees and attach it to a single stud so as to address the monumentum issue.i did one myself a few years ago when i had just gotten my mig. not as heavy duty but the 42-incher is still hanging in the right spotLast edited by d94jonca; 08-11-2011 at 04:04 PM.Reason: mistyped, wrote wal mount, meant lag boltsif anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat - 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Reply:true, and in addition to being lighter weight, i would assume center of mass is closer to the wall than your old set up, reducing momentum as well.if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat - 2 Thessalonians 3:10
Reply:Last I check, Momentum implied movement. There is no movement in the unit once it's in place. The unit is bolted together (presuming to allow for adjustment, and installation) it's not a single weld on the edge of the angle iron to a piece of flat stock. you're not going to A) bust a bolt, B) open up that angle, of C) create momentum, with a 30 lbs stationary item.There are no problems. Reply:its not the momentum you have to worry about, it is the torque multiplication created by the large lever arm of the 19" TV arm vs the 1.5" angle arm. (a vertical mount would have substantially reduced this ratio)regardless, it is well made and beefy enough, all he has to worry about is a possible dent in the wall on the lower edge of the angle.Thanks for sharing!

Reply:Jeff,You've got to be joking? those passed inspection? Glad I got to watch my house be built. I know everything is done right.I've got two store bought tilting TV mounts that say their rated for up to 60" TVs. essentially the mount for the wall is 1/8" plate bent into a C channel, and than the top and bottum of the C are bent back out to vertical. The surface is that actually contacts the wall is only about 3" wide. and has 4 lag bolts into studs. Granted, you can compress the drywall if you tighten the lags to much, but I think for the load, 2" of plate on the wall is plenty.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:I like the idea. I think you did well. My only complaint is non welding related. Those outlets should be on the wall behind the tv rather than above on the ceiling. Don't you hate doing something cool and then people have to criticize it? Reply:Nope, I was not joking.  The gaps in the studs and plates are more commmon on non-load bearing walls.   In my own house I have found two instances of a 1" gap on non-load walls.  Not every stud, but at least one on a wall run.  My luck is that I would pick that exact stud to hang a tv!  That's why I open the wall first to see the construction,  Can usually scope the pocket if it is an interior wall (if running concealed wiring).AutoArc 120 MIGMontgomery Ward AC/DC 230r.i.p. - Miller Thunderbolt 05 Jeep Liberty Renegade
