well just wondering if I might be able to get some pointers or tips. I just got the tig welder and am slowly practicing/learning before I jump on my projects. This is 16ga 304 stainless tubing.First thing is I seem to have a bad problem with the arc flaring up real bright once in a while in a yellowish color. Any idea what that may be?I am having a hard time doing the fusion tacks and actually getting them to stick. Any tips? I've tried lots of different ways and i eventually just end up melting both edges and have a hole.Does anybody have any pulse setting recommendations? I was real real sloppy because I didnt take the time to lock down the piece or get comfortable before I started welding...mostly cause I was excited to give it a shot. This was probably the hardest part of it all.Using a clear oversize gas cup setup from arczone on a ck 20 series watercooled torch1/16 2% lantinated or thoriated1/16 308 filler rodbackpurge set at about 10cfhtig nozzle set at about 20cfh55 ampsno pulseLast edited by darkostoj; 04-11-2013 at 10:53 PM.
Reply:Not bad at all!Looks like you don't need pulse. I use it as a convenience but can do without it. Reply:Those are awesome beads for someone starting out. As above, the flare may be your helmet or dipping the tungsten, when I dip I get a sudden flare. For fusion tacks, a tight fit up and a fast blast at high amps. I'm no pro, but for .060 steel, I set my machine to the spot setting, .5-1.0 second, and triple the welding amps. Very short arc length and a blast. Works for me.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum |
