Reply:What position? What welder/heat source ( AC or DC )Never tried stainless, I believe theirs pre-heat and post heat involved...Maybe not.Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:an older linclon tombstone
Reply:So, AC.6011 or 7018AC are great rods... Material thickness determines wire size....THIN stuff, 6013 is bestLincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:1/4 6011??
Reply:Not knowing what size arc welder you have, start with using 1/8 or 3/32 6011 and 3/32 7018.  If your machine has output of 150 amps, then use 1/8 7018.As for settings,  set starting current to 90-100 amps with 3/32 7018 or 120-130 amps with 1/8 7018 and adjust from there.  6011 3/32, run about 60 amps and 1/8 6011 run about 90 amps, again, just a place to start, adjust as necessary. For stainless, you need to match the electrode to the base metal, which means you need to know what type of stainless you have, but stainless is most commonly 304 and can be welded with 308L.Last edited by DesertRider33; 10-12-2010 at 08:30 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:it has an out put of 180amps max
Reply:1/4 is a biggun...I like like 32nd rule... 30 amps for every 32nd of an inch 3/32 would be 90 amps, run abead and adjust heat from there. 1/4 is 8/32, thats 240 amps....give or take rod characteristics...Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:thank you
Reply:On AC, I think 6013 3/32" or 1/8" will be the easiest to learn."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:I first learned to stick with 6011's(1/8 & 3/32)on 90 amps and then graduated to 7018 at anywhere from 90 to 105 amps, after I got the form and started to fabricate stuff for strength.Watching your puddle, how hard you need to push, getting used to moving your hand closer as you weld, trying setting the rod at different  angles in the stinger. Practicing uphill welds and overhead welds.all things i practiced on.the more you practice, the more it pays off.Last edited by fabman92; 10-12-2010 at 11:45 PM.

Reply:Those rods are what chuck Norris first learned to weld with..
