Ok I have a little cuby in my room that I was going to build shelving in and never got around to it. Im thinking that I will build a 1inch square tube shelf frame and use plexi glass for the top to make a really modern looking shelf for that cut-out in the wall. My question is... what is the cheapest type of steel that I can use to build this with? Should I use cold rolled steel tubing? I have checked with a few suppliers online and it looks like hot rolled steel is the choice and the longer you buy it the cheaper it is.... Do you guys think I would look like an idiot with a cordless angle grinder cutting a 24'er in half to fit on my truck? i did the math and its a huge savings to buy it long!Miller Diversion 165Rage 2 Chop saw
Reply:Definatley buy it long. Most places will cut to length for you. price is dependent on the size of material being cut. 1" square should be less than a dollar per cut. Just have them cut it to the length you need to get the peices to fit in what ever you're picking them up in and do the rest yourself. Reply:Also, make sure the cuts that they make fit your design. if you're buying 2 20' sections and your project needs 10 4' lengths. have them cut them at the 12' mark, that way you're not having to try to fit two lengths together later.There are no problems. Reply:well I will only put light objects on this shelf like bottles of cologne and other things maybe some ball caps on the bottom shelf, keys just a kind of out of the way shelf. I plan on tiggin this shelf together seeing thats the only machine I have right now.Miller Diversion 165Rage 2 Chop saw
