I am new to welding and have some scrap pipe from 4"-8" and a ton of 1/4"x2" flat bar. I have seen some stands used for pipe tests in videos and would like to build one to attach to my soon to be welding table to get some practice. Is there a standard size of the stand or isit modular for the different positions and size of pipe? Any pictures or dimensions would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:We just used simple welded vertical pipe stands in our test booths and tacked the sample pipe sections to them. Break 'em off when done and repeat.
Reply:Couple of pics. Most welding schools have something like this. Attached Images
Reply:Very similar to the welded assemblies of pipe sections, bolts, and nuts we used. Ours had a bigass C-clamps welded to the end of the horizontal arms for holding heavy stuff. For less heavy stuff, vise grips would have worked too. So no, I don't guess there is any "standard"XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:I like the adjustable stand. I was getting some practice in and welded up a small fixed one out of some 1x1 .125 tubing. Will have to post some pictures later. |
