This welder is set up for 440 volt. What I want to know is can it be converted to run on 220 without costing much money.Any help is appreciated.
Reply:look at the data plate on the welder, if it is still there. see if it lists different line voltages. If so then inside the welder should be a reconnect panel that just needs jumper bars moved.Look on the left side of the welder. If you can't find it. post a few pictures of connection panels inside the welder. we might be able tp help.
Reply:Thanks for the help I'm going to look at it tonight. It sounds like the guy doesn't want much money for it but it's no good to me if I can't hook it up to 220.
Reply:If it is wired to run on 440v... it is almost for sure going to be wired for 3 phase. Most of the 3phase machines are dual voltage, meaning you can run them in 220 3ph or 440 3ph.... But 3ph always. So unless you have 3phase power at home, I would skip it.I don't know the exact specifications of this particular machine so let someone else chime in... but chances are you will not be able to use this machine.Mikel
Reply:It's not for me, I'm looking for a friend that has a farm and want's a welder to fix things.
Reply:With a 400 amp output, I agree with Mikel in that the machine is likely a 3-phase and even if convertible to 230V will be extremely power hungry at the lower voltage.Depending on its and power requirements, your friends farm may have 3-phase available and if it does and the machine proves to be the same he'll be OK.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I looked at it tonight and it's 440 three phase and my friend doesn't have that kind of power in his barn. All he has is 220 so it's not the right welder for him. Thanks everyone for the help. I'll keep looking for him.

Reply:I'm in wisconsin, I'm looking at a Miller 330A welder on CL for him. Seems kind of big for what he needs. I'll keep my eyes open for an old lincoln/miller for him. He wants to buy a Harbor freight 225 Amp stick welder because a HF store is a short distance from his farm and he can get a warranty with it. I can't give him any advice on the HF welders as I know nothing about them. I think if I was him I would buy a used Lincoln/Miller buzz box on CL, but maybe the HF welder will do just fine. I don't want to tell him what to buy because if it craps out on him I don't want him to be PO'd at me. I don't like sticking my head on the chopping block and things don't work out.
