I purchased a HF 160amp stick/tig welder. It came with a Binzel tig torch that has a button mounted into the handle, I am not sure if it activates the arc or the gas solenoid. What I'm wondering if it is possible to use an aftermarket torch and attach a button to the torch where the remote amperage control would be on other torches? I have not used tig yet but I can see my self wanting a smaller torch. My next question is can the Binzel torch use standard consumables? It is a model SRT-17. The unit has a 2-pin plug on it. I'm sure that this would not be a standard item so is there anyone that sells an adapter?
Reply:That Binzel torch accepts standard 17/26 consumables, cups, gaskets, collet bodys, collets, yada yada yada. You can get one of these, but the bulk in the cable will still be there in the form of that heavy 4-gauge copper cable.http://www.ebay.com/itm/WP-9-Air-coo...item27aafb0059, just chop off that metric gas fitting and put yours on there, so it will thread directly onto your machine. You'd just have to make sure your machine accepts that 10-25 Dinse connector. If it takes the larger 35-50 Dinse, then you'd need to get one and swap it out.For a lighter option of a one-piece power/gas hose you can use this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/WP-9-SR-9-Ti...item27bcc89e7d, but you'd have to chop off that metric one-piece power/gas fitting and substitute these three parts.http://www.river-weld.com/wp17-sr17-...624_p6750.htmlhttp://www.river-weld.com/wp18-wp26-...740_p6930.htmlhttp://www.river-weld.com/45v67-gas-...721_p7080.html 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:I was browsing around for what will be needed to start doing tig and found this, http://www.arc-zone.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=4160. It has the two wires so all I would need is McMaster p/n 8903T21 which is the 2 pin female connector. Would something like this work? I like the fact that it can be switched from torch to torch.
Reply:you're wayyyy off base. What you found is just a low-power momentary switch, kinda like the one already built into the torch handle. This kind of switch goes back into the machine to tell the machine to send the high-amperage through a separate, larger gauge wire to the torch. In fact you're not even in the ball-park. I'm not sure you understand the basics of a tig torch. Yes you need an on/off momentary switch (which you can find on ebay and what not for a couple of measly dollars), but you need power and shielding gas going into a tig torch (presumably a WP9 style since you say you want a smaller torch, and the WP9 is the next size down from a 17). So like I said, first you need to decide, do you want A. separate power/shielding gas going into the tig torch or B. Single, one-piece power gas hoseIf you choose A, do you see how the first Ebay link has the (possibly) necessary connections for your machine? (IE: one dinse power connector sending power through a normal copper wire cable, one threaded gas connector to send shielding gas through a separate tube (which joins the copper wire at the torch), and one two-wire momentary switch)If you choose B, do you see how the second Ebay link has an integrated power/gas hose and a separate two-wire connector for the switch? (total of 2 cables vs 3 for option A) 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:Oscar, I apologize for not making it clear what I'm looking for. I know the torch has the current and gas hose built in. I'm looking for the switch to turn on the high frequency and gas solenoid in the machine. |
