Reply:See water?Damp rods will pop and sputter. Sometimes it's hard to keep the arc going. Sometimes it'll burn fine for a few inches of rod, then act up for the next few inches of rod. Sometimes one rod out of the box will be fine, but the next one out of the same box will act up. If you suspect problems with wet rods I'd just open a new box and see if that fixes everything.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:A wet cellulose rod like 6010 will have a sticky feel to it
Reply:One old thread on the subject.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...light=moistureCellulose rods (6010,6011, 6013) are designed to operate with a higher range of moisture content than low hydrogen rods, hence the name, (7018, 8018, etc).

Reply:6011 rod, stored in one of the plastic rod holders. I am experiencing a weak arc when striking the rod, the first 1/2" of the weld looks like the amp's are way to low and your rod's a 1/2" from the puddle, then it starts cooking along, weld lays down...maybe a little too much, stop and look at the puddle and there is a good edge up to the orignal surface of the metal so it looks like its digging in.Sound like it isn't a wet rod issue, probably a setting on the machine. I'll play with arc force.First attempts at DC, got a multi-function machine...way more knobs than the old ac buzz box So 6011, DC+, 90 amps. To my inexperienced eye it looks like your starting out cold and ending hot. |
