interested in using angle iron for table legs under a woodden slab. this is what ive found on google. any input welcome. i am also lookin into fabin ub some metal table legs in general.http://www.woodrichpa.com/3-angle-ir...a-modern-look/i know this isnt a woodworking forum but i found some good ideas on here as wellhttp://www.woodrichpa.blogspot.com/Zach WareOwnerMid-GA Outdoor & Equipment ServiceByron GA478-960-2014
Reply:Yup. I got some REAL heavy OAK doors from a hospital auction. They must be 4x8 and 2" thick.. It's fairly common to do on some tables, at least down here in South Texas! Only they're birdpooped together with a 110v fluxcore and they still take a beating!Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:personally I would want a larger flange to mount the leg to the slab/table top. possibly with a small gusset. Just my .02There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Built a work table for my dad, we moved and now use it as a laundry bench. Used angle iron and some counter top mdf material. Attached Images
Reply:those legs need a good sanding (rust removal) and some paint. Laundry rooms have to much moisture in the air for raw metal. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:If I were to build a table using a wood slab, I would make an independent structure for the legs and set the slab on it. Make a square tube rectangle and tube legs (personal preference). Angle would work fine also.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
Reply:I built a steel frame for a 600~ pound piece of drift wood that must have been 40"x8 ft. The wood was not machined flat so the frame I built had adjustable dowels that actually connected with the wood at various levels. This stabilized the wood on the 11ga frame but also allowed adjustability to find a visual level of the wood surface. There was leveling adjusters on the legs of the table to level the table as well. Adjustability is your friend.
Reply:MidGA,I'll get some pictures for you soon, I have them in storage right now. But I did run 2 crossbeams between the 2 legs to add some strength. I'm sorry, I may have got the wrong idea. Is this for an absolutely gorgeous table like that. I thought you were asking about a wood work bench..Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:here is that table i built and mentioned earlier. all 11ga. and lots of adjusters to secure and level the wood and frame.

Reply:am i missing something? ive built a fair number of tables and stands out of angle, but cant see how you're going to use those angles as they are. is it missing screw holes? are you planning on cutting a slot in the wood slab and sliding the angle in? just going to clamp them on? or is the question simply will angle iron work as legs? you will need some sort of bottom rail, gusset or apron to keep it from racking.if you do use angle iron make sure you weld a flange of sorts on the bottom, like in the picture, or at the very least smooth down the edges, its hell on floors otherwise. i usually attach either an adjustable foot, or a plate with rubber bumpers.
Reply:Just throwing this out there, in case anyone is interested... there's a similar shop to the one in the original post here in Illinois, that is going out of business.  Selling off equipment and lumber.http://www.BraunFurniture.com   No interest yadda yadda, I just happened across them yesterday.__David Hillman
Reply:itll have somethin on the feed for padding. and something on the tops for mounting securely. gotta buy or barrow a chop saw and a mig welder, not that good with stick. also gotta get the tree milled and get it stacked out here on the lot to dry for 3 monthsZach WareOwnerMid-GA Outdoor & Equipment ServiceByron GA478-960-2014
