hi everyone, been doing a fair bit of aluminum tig recently and was wondering what harm the high frequency can have. i protect my lungs and skin, just curious about all those waves bouncing around making my radio sing, heheh.thanks
Reply:I don't think there's anything to be worried about unless you have a pacemaker or other important medical electronics.
Reply:I'd back away from the table and run it over my hand and watch the lighten show, people would look at me like I was crazy.....That and take you dark lens and set it on the table and run it over the glass, cool show.As for it in AC mod to keep it stable, I think you need to keep things like sensitive electronics away from it, as for you.......... I dont think its a prob..
Reply:It killed an iphone in my pocket that I had. Right after welding some aluminum parts of the touchscreen died
Reply:HF messed up one of my digital levels.
Reply:I've seen it screw up digital watches. My old instructor told us to keep sensitive electronics, like laptops, away to be safe. I believe there are no health issues other than fume or maybe if you have a pacemaker in you.Go hot, or go home!
Reply:I was the first person in the US to kill a verzion GZ one phone. The GZ one design team called me to ask how the heck I did that. My dumbass set it down on the bench while doing some High frequency AC tig welding on aluminum. Fried that sucker.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:I doubt it will harm you anymore than the thousands of waves your bombarded with daily from radio stations, satellites etc.
Reply:I've gone through 4 iPhones, but I think only one case can maybe/possibly be blamed on hf. When I'm out in the shop, I store mine near a machine, prolly like 3or 5feet away from the power source.2002 VW Golf TDi1994 Audi S4
Reply:thanks for all the feedback everyone. i wasn't even thinking about my cell phone. i have enough trouble going through phones let alone zapping them to death.i'll post some pics of the toolboxes i've been gluein' at the end of the week.
Reply:One more thing about cell phones Bill, you have to remember that there are magnets in the mic and speaker, so watch the grinding, it killed mine!Go hot, or go home!
Reply:My. Pacemaker took a 25 year welding career away from me. No more HF AC!

Reply:Unless properly grounded Hi-Freq. will also damageDRO's - Digital Read Outs on milling machines. This info was in the manual, but I only discovered it when searching for a default-reset after the DRO's display went vector. The good news, it only cost $100.00 to fix. I'm nowproperly grounded, but as a precaution, I unplug theDRO when not in use.Opus

Reply:I can't use my HF start plasma cutter on my new CNC table because it can blow out the control board.
Reply:Invest in quality welders or plasmacutters and you won't have a problem with HF.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:My 175 S'wave has performed flawlessly for at least 10 years now probably more. Maybe it is the environment you subject your welder to that kills boards?
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749I have wondered that. My shop is clean & climate controlled year round. I only run it on 50 amps tho & wonder if that is an issue.Thing is, I've known many ppl who have done the exact same thing with theirs & never had a problem.I wish I knew.Might end up with a red machine if it happens again. I can't afford a Dynasty 350. No way.
