Hello, I am hoping to use my old Century 130 mig machine to weld on some very light aluminum box tubing. I see lots of Lincoln aluminum kits out there for similar machines but not having much luck finding anything for mine. My question: will the Lincoln kit be similar enough to make it work in mine? Thanks for input if you know about these machines.
Reply:Note that very few people are successful welding alum with the standard mig gun even with the kit. Alum wire just doesn't want to push well over long distances. A spoolgun is usually the prefered method to mig alum. Also note that you will have to run your machine at max heat and wire speed to do 16-14ga alum. Thats the best you will get with only a 110v 130 amp mig.Just don't be surprised after you get thru all this and it doesn't work well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Since the cable is already shorter than a 220 volt machine, I just change the roller drive to a rubber one, switch to argon, and weld with 5356 wire on my 120 volt Century. So far, I've not needed to replace liners for aluminum. Keep in mind that you have to go pretty fast when doing aluminum. |
