I recently finished a rebar sculpture. It is made from 500' of rebar and stands 9' tall.It was originally intended to be yard art but I like it so much it is now in the den. Attached Images

Reply:Wow, pretty creative. Great job.
Reply:Wow!  Impressive! How heavy and how stable is it standing on the floor?"These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Legal requirements do not exist.Technical issues subject to change."_________________________________________Lincoln MIG PAK 180Lincoln AC-225
Reply:About 300lbs! I was concerned about stability, obviously. It would stand/balance on the turned out rebar ribs but it was wobbly.I then welded the rebar bends to an old plow disc, the difference was huge. If you look carefully you an see the edge of a plywood disc painted red. This was to stop the plow from damaging the floor and stability was unaffected.
Reply:Great job - that thing must be heavy.  How did you make the bends?  Is that a bird hole in the main trunk towards the top?  Great job keeping everthing evenly spaced and parrallel.Last edited by Huffarted; 09-22-2011 at 07:33 PM.Victor O/AHH125EZForney C3 AC-180
Reply:That's a good looking lab.  Looks a lot like ours...except ours is mildly retarded...LOL"These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Legal requirements do not exist.Technical issues subject to change."_________________________________________Lincoln MIG PAK 180Lincoln AC-225

Reply:Very nice. As I scrolled down I thought it would have looked great out in the weather with a natural patina but it looks great in the house also. Good job
Reply:Patina that thing and take it to Scottsdale. They'll pay top dollar for that.
Reply:Very nice job. I like it too. It must have been a fun making it, not so fun moving it.
Reply:Very impressive.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Very cool!
Reply:very cool. I love those me and my white welder legs a couple miles from home.
Reply:You put a ton of extra effort into keeping that rebar nice and straight. It sure paid off. I see you even have the little woodpecker hole in there."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Wow, Aston, you are talented! Great work on the angles of the connecting limbs. How did you move that in?

Reply:I knew you had to be from Az. Ditto on the Scottsdale comment. See if Gilbert Ortega 's gallery in old town might be interested or if they would take it on consignment. Would make a great "find" for a well off snowbird.
Reply:very cool.  I got one in my yard like that. I used 3/8'' all thread rod laid over 6'' pipe.  I'll try and snap a pic.DayePound to fit, paint to match
Reply:Make another one! I bet that sells in no time for big $$$$$$$$$$$$Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:I'm not a fan of rebar.  But I have to give credit where credit is due.  That is very creative and executed well.  Good job bud.
Reply:Very nice. What size bar did you use?

Reply:Great job!  I've been debating building something that's essentially just the opposite of that to duplicate an art piece at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. You've given me some great ideas on how to proceed.Originally Posted by astonThe finished article........
Reply:I'd bet if you made another one and put it in a shop in Sedona someone would pay big bucks for that.    What a great show piece.---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:When I saw your pictures of it in the shop and read that you were going to take it indoors I must confess I thought - "not married."  But then the picture from inside makes me see how fantastic it does look and combined with the metal chairs and other metal things I'm sure you have around it is a true piece of sculpture.  Even I could get the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) for that.  I'm sure that a designer wouldn't blink at 2 grand from your studio to buy another one.  The trick is of course to shop the inside pictures around.I wonder, does it ring when you knock it?  Do different parts make a different tone?It would also look striking in the snow that is due around here real soon now :-)Miller Syncrowave 180SDLincoln WeldPak 100 with gasHandheld Milwaukee BandsawO/A Cutting Torch
