Hey People,I'm in need of some expert advice. This was found on a Ring Header on a Power Station conditioning plant being built. On further inquiry, about the function of this threaded rod, the guy assembling the header, he uses it as a stiffener. They tack weld it on the galvanized pipe, just for assembly purposes. So it gets removed, after assembly, and the tack welds gets grinded off. Now my question or concern is, won't this effect the purpose and integrity of galvanized pipe, and won't the heat temper the pipe, to an extent that it could be regarded as detrimental. The welding process is SMAW and E7018. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:Welcome.Certainly compramises the coating. Are you sure the pipes are more than standard non heat treated high carbon steel? What does your engineer say?Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Zink Migration may fix the problem of the surface destruction. I know its not common knowledge but zinc will migrate on its own to cover small areas that have had the zinc scratched off or knocked off. Mac |
