I have a little TIG machine that has the gas line that can run threw the unit itself and I cannot find the fitting to connect the TIG's Argon hose (male) to the Argon regulator (female). I have looked at Lowe's and home depot and can find the pieces (2 connectors) that I can probably make it work but I thought that someone out there would just make on fitting to connect the 2 together, maybe a adapter or bushing of some sort. I guess it would help if I knew there proper names but they both look like flare fittings? I know that the male is 1/4" and the female is 3/4"here's pics, thanks in advance Attached Images SQUARE WAVE 175 TIG   DUAL MIG 151
Reply:I'm not sure what to call the fitting, but when I needed one, my Local Welding Shop knew exactly what I needed, and it was only a few bucks.  If it was something I needed to buy more than once, I'd probably remember what it was called, but this isn't the sort of part I encounter more than once or twice.Anyway, this is NOT a hardware store item.  These fitting are NOT compatible with plumbing fittings, so your LWS is just about the only place you can get this stuff.
Reply:I just assumed that a flare fitting was just a flare fitting, without mattering where it came from or who supplied it, who do you consider a LWS? I have some local GAS suppliers that only deal with the big corporations and a Tractor supply.........outside of that all I got is the Internet. SQUARE WAVE 175 TIG   DUAL MIG 151
Reply:Did you try ASKING the guy at home depot?  I would bet they have it.  It shouldn't be anything special, I never have been left stranded w/o the right fittings from those places.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:Nah, wast anybody around to ask, besides the last time I went there looking for a small fitting an older more aged gentleman approached and ask if he could assist me so I figured that this was his Dept. and would get me what I needed quicker............WOW, could I have been more wrong!!!!! I think he knew less than I did about fittings and after 30min of him telling me that I cant use pipe fittings for gas I stumbled across it and went on my merry way.Does Airgas sell fittings?I know there in the market of employing arrogant A$$holes, but I didnt stick or look around long enough to see if they do. I wasnt buying a $1000. Lincoln so I was shunned. SQUARE WAVE 175 TIG   DUAL MIG 151
Reply:Airgas is gonna have most common CGA fittings and parts in the store. Local Airgas and Praxair here sell Western fittings, (inert gas fittings/parts shown here);http://www.westernenterprises.com/en.../PDFS/wi16.pdfMatt

Reply:Originally Posted by rlitmanEither source should be better than a hardware store. There are MANY kinds of flare fittings.  Hardware stores typically carry 45 degree SAE flares for copper pipe (usually used for fuel oil), and gas flares (specially used for short natural gas or propane flexible lines when you hookup a range or water heater, etc).Specialty shops carry flares for refrigeration (similar to copper pipe flares, but often beefier fittings for higher pressures), or aviation (they typically use an AN flare that is 37 degrees, but there are also 30 degree flares, and other types of 37 degree flares).Automotive applications also sometimes require bubble flares, and double flares, among other styles.Oxygen and acetylene hoses use a type of CGA flare fitting that is not seen elsewhere, as do inert gas hoses.  This is very specialty stuff, and even if someone can get it to kind of fit up with a hardware store part, its likely to leak, unless you use the right fitting.

Reply:If your hose is too small for the Western hose barb, this might be the ticket:http://weldingdirect.com/adfitforgasr.htmlYou could also solder a smaller tube into the Western hose barb since it's a low pressure connection.Find out the inside diameter of your hose before buying parts. I snip a small "ring" of hose to take with me when matching odd hose.Airgas/Radnor has a bagged nut/barb/clamp setup for a few dollars I use to make up all our argon hose.Last edited by farmall; 07-17-2010 at 09:24 PM.
Reply:If you have access to Western hose fittings then you can get a fitting as small as 3/16 id up to 3/8ths in my acklands catolog, looks like an oxygen type fitting.I have just made some changes with my welder and had to look for fittings rurally, do you have a commercial/auto/fleet supply outfit nearby like Acklands Grainger, can look at their catolog online on 456-457 and find the fitting and print it out to show your next service rep what you ned exactly.
Reply:I do have a Grainger locally but never have been there, I have pieced it together with a couple different fittings from Lowes, since they are not in the Hot rod or Aviation business and didnt have any Army Navy (37*) fittings for me to get confused with I use a 3/8 Flare x 1/4 MIP connector and a 1/4 FIP x 1/4 barb and just took off the 1/4 Flare that was attached by a hose clamp as you can see in the bottom photo and put that hose over the barb. I didnt know Grainger had fittings, I will have to stop there and check them out. I am always looking for fittings or fasteners.......which reminds me that we also have a fastenal.
