I have a HH 140 that I have set up running CO2 and solid wire. Currently trying to weld on a piece of 1/8 angle and it just makes a bunch of pupping and little molten wire nests. C02 psi is at 20 and I'm welding in the garage. I have switched the polarity to account for shielding gas.Other settings:V: 4Wire speed:35Wire: .030I've tried welding the tip all different distances and still just melting the wire and popping.Any idears?
Reply:Probably needs a bigger breaker! Lmao!Idk man have you checked the ground clamp? Maybe its not hooked up good or not getting a good connection to the partLast edited by jamesyarbrough; 06-01-2013 at 06:51 PM.

Reply:The polarity is hooked up correctly inside the unit....I actually had it wrong at first then switched it but same issue. I just took a grinder to a piece of scrap and cleared it completely for the ground and where I was welding. I'm not sure about the breaker because I'm at a house I'm renting....

Reply:Really sounds like something is wrong with the ground connection. Double check your ground cable connections and stuff. See if something is loose or something. As a matter of fact check all the electrical connections and make sure they are tight. Even where the welding lead clamps into the machine. Make sure the crimp connections are tight on the wire by the terminal block too
Reply:Originally Posted by copeJames has a warped sense of humor.  The breaker comment relates to another thread.Be sure you have the spool and wire feed tension loose enough, and that the feed roller and contact tip are for .030.  Also, be sure CO2 is flowing when you press the trigger.
Reply:Is this 1/8" angle "scrap" formerly part of a bed frame?XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:Just figured out what was wrong and I'm very afraid to admit it..I am brand new though so I have an excuse.
Reply:this sounds more like something with the wire delivery system i know its not specific but its a start point what size liner do yo have? what kind of drive rollers? is the gun kinked? is any of the driver rollers or wire spool hub to tight?
Reply:Two Words- Contact tipAnother small issue I've noticed, there are small metal shavings under the wire feeder, it looks like it has somehow ground some of the spring looking thing at the end of the welding gun. It doesn't seem to be touching anything now but you can tell its where the shavings came from.

Reply:shaving under the wire feed probably have the tension on the rollers to tight.
Reply:What was wrong with the contact tip was I didn't put it on.My day today was spent learning 3 tools I've never used before. A cutting torch, a grinder, and a welder. I had used a welder once before but everything was all set up already. Something I noticed even before my contact tip stupidity is that a lot of guides on YouTube etc. still expect some familiarity of the tool to begin with. For example, it took me forever to figure out what the front valve on the cutting torch was for, the one that adjust the o2, ace percentage. All the vids I saw and what I read all said to turn on the ace, then the o2 and adjust the o2. I ended up figuring out that the lever makes the o2 go so I was doing this while holding the lever down the whole time. Finally, I ran across a vid that was about cutting and it talked about using the lever at the appropriate time to blast additional o2. Only then did I realize that something wasn't right, so then I took my understanding from a few different videos and put 2 and 2 together to figure out the correct way to operate the torch. In the end, today has been valuable because I now know the ends and outs of my tools a lot better than if everything worked great the first time...I think it's time for a beer

Reply:Ha well thanks for the support, also good to know that leaving your shielding gas on can drain it, so it does not matter if you are pulling the trigger, gas is still leaking out some?I actually completed my first project with what little time I had left Saturday and most of Sunday. It was naturally a welding cart. Attached some pics...I think. Attached Images
