coolant tank size for water cooled tig?

I finally have everything for my water cooled set-up. I am using a 290ghp submersible pump. I want to know if i use a 5 gallon tank as my reservoir, would I still need a fan and heat exchanger? Reply:12.5 hours welding wide open with a Lincoln idealarc300 on ac got the 5 ish gallons of coolant in my Bernard cooler just over 120 degs with a 70 deg ambient.    No fan No radiator.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:sen2two, I was thinking of doing the same thing, basically a tub of water with a submersable pump for larger jobs. I live in new england with sub zero temps and an unheated garage. I have heard that RV antifreeze can be used as opposed to a much more expensive welder specific antifreeze?? Anyone else heard this or should I stick with what's made for the job??
Reply:I use RV antifreeze and use to work in a shop that used it in ~30 different machines, never had any problems. I have a mid sized pond pump that puts out about 7 gallons an hour when run through the small lines on a tig torch. Welding wide open at 200 amps it will get warm quick but doesn't seem to get any hotter after prolonged use. I have 4 gallons of water in my system fwiw
