My hat is off for the guys who weld overhead all day long, me and my uncle took a weekend rush job for good pay thinking, "why not right? We need some extra cash". We were told it was mostly overhead hardwire, no big deal I blew it off... And now I have a hard time holding my cell phone up! Hopefully I'll heal up Good tonight so I can bust a$$ again tomorrow! Also this is the first "welding" only job with really no fab involved (although I wished I was fitting everything myself...) so I'm pretty excited for a change of pace!

Reply:Reminds me of when I was a laborer at crook county hospital. I was 20 years old and really into body building back then and was 220 lbs. little body fat. We were working in the basement chipping concrete overhead with electric breakers. This little Italian guy, about 45 years old, is at this thing for like forty five minutes straight. I said "Hey old man, let me give you a break!" We got along because I am Italian also. After about ten minutes, the next five were just gruling, and I had to stop. He comes back, grabs the gun and says "Get outta da way, dosa bigga muscles, are forra lukes!" I turned and took off my hard hat and gave the man the respect he deserved after handing me my b*lls on a platter!!!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:When I was welding the school buildings project, all of the welding was overhead and vertical, most of the verticals above eye level and most of the job was done while standing on ladders.   That constant climbing up and down the ladder, moving it around, moving the machine around and holding the torch over my head, while pulling up the whole length of the torch lead off the ground most of the time, was a real killer at first.   The first day I was wore out by lunch time and moving about half as fast as my buddy who had been there for a few weeks before I started.   By end of the first week, I was getting used to it and could just about hang with him.   By end of 3rd week, I was welding circles around my buddy and he was hassling me to slow down.  I haven't done that much volume of welding at heights since then and I'm sure I would be worn out very quickly until I got used to it again.Give it some time, you will get used to it.  MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:haha yeah it takes awhile to get used too. I've spent weeks straight burning 1/16 dual shield overhead. suuuuck for the first week.
Reply:Well we got the job done tonight, it's some kind of skid for an oil rig in Alaska btw, should be painted tomorrow and on the truck tomorrow night! And I'll be back at my normal little fab shop next week
Reply:Overhead and poor fit-up is a recipe for disaster. I remeber doing overhead on a poor fitup part and having goobs of molten metal drip down on me and one actually managed to get underneath my welding jacket and set my shirt on fire, not fun.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Yeah I'm not gonna lie it was really really bad, they just didn't understand five more minutes of figuring out the right copes and angles would've saved us 45 minutes of just welding

Reply:Dont weld overhead much. Everytime I have to work on the trucks/trailers, laying and rolling around. The next day my neck feels like I got into a hell of a fight the night before. Get some rest there buddy! You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
