Reply:I see that it does have HF start.Looks decent then.  The only thing I don't like is that the gas control is totally separate.  Need a torch with a valve.  Handy because you control pre and post but at the same time you go through gas like you wouldn't believe if not mindful.Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme

Reply:How well a welder will perform for you depends on what you want to use it for.  For instance, if you want to weld 1/2" aluminum, then this is not the machine for you. The Square Wave 175 is a great machine for use within its range. That is a very good price if it is in good condition. It should work fine on #6 wire circuit with a 70 amp breaker.Update: I checked Lincolns manual for this machine and it does recommend a 125 amp breaker for the top end on AC tig, 100 amp breaker for stick and DC tig, but only #8 wire due to the low (25%) duty cycle.  Note: I have been running my PT 225 on a 70 amp breaker for a couple of years and never had any problems.Last edited by davido30093; 04-29-2013 at 12:43 PM.

Reply:Thanks guys. Ideally just looking for an inexpensive way to get high frequency AC tig machine for home hobby use. Didn't know about the high amp draw and that is ggod to know. Funny the youtube sales video did not mention it was HF, just assumed it was. What thickness aluminum would this be good for?Close to home and cheap, may look into this later this week.
Reply:The square wave 175 will draw 65 amps on ac tig and 53 amps on dc stick using 230v power at max output. That being said, why would you need to have it on a 100 amp breaker with 230v? Reply:Not sure what the (pro) entails but I have the similar machine and love it! A real work horse, never a single problem, turns out welds day in and day out! I would recommend one to anyone. After many years of TIG the only thing I wish I had now is AC balance. Minor thing though. Not the best presentation, but I only gave it a go once some time ago.
Reply:^^Nice review^^. Thanks. Yeah I wonder what the difference is in the Pro series? The Lowes mig machines are pro series which are cheaper made than the ones offered at the LWS. Can't find anything on this tig Pro series....

Reply:Go for it , i realy enjoy working with my SW175 , they fit my need .. And 750$ you can't go wrong ,I will try my best to be understoodMY DREAM GARAGE
Reply:I have not searched thru the Lincoln web site as much as I have Miller, do they have serial number reference on line where you can tell the year built?
Reply:Don't want to push you but I must say, if you wait to long that TIG will be gone. I see most SW175's sell for $900-1000. Just for fun see if you can get it for say 700 and put the 50 into consumables, filler, and practice scraps. You will be happy with it and even after a year or more you can always sell it for the same price you bought it for.
Reply:The price has been lowered to $675 already ! I wish I was closer. I think the newer "Pro" model has the auto balance and the older, standard SW175 does not have auto balance. Here's a pic of the subject of discussion for future reference, after someone wakes up and buys this machine, and the CL posting is deleted. Reply:"This machine was discontinued by Lincoln some years ago, but it proved to be so popular and in demand, they started making this model again. What does that tell you?"Actually Lincoln brought that model back to compete with Millers Diversion series.I bought one new but sold it after I found a water cooled Syncrowave 250.
Reply:Yeah he has lowered the price and I haven't even called yet. It's a 30 mile drive and I'm working a shutdown on 12 hr nights til Sunday and just can't get away. I will try to call tohight. Regardless, cheap or not I will not purchase w/o a demo. I'll keep you posted and thanks for the feedback!
