Hey guys, im new to the forum and was hoping to get some safety help on my torch setup. An older Victor Oxy/Acetelyne torch was given to me by my father in law which was his dads. It has new hoses and is in over all good shape with no leaks. We recently just moved and i found that oil had some how gotten into the bag of tips. I know that oil and oxygen can cause and explosion so i have been very weary to even try cleaning the tips.   Is there a way to clean these without risk of blowing myself up or would i be better off just buying new tips? The regulators have not been hooked up to tanks for some time now due to the tip problem and have collected dust. Will the dust cause issues if hooked up to the tanks? I really dont want to blow myself up and would appreciate any input or resources available for Oxy/Acet safety and setup.Thanks,-Garrett
Reply:You should send all them tips to me and go buy new ones. Ha. No just wash them out with dish water or I would just put them on. The blowing up is from pressure in the lines and in torch. I have had my torch head soaked in oil while cutting up junk and never had any problem. I dont think dust will be a problem Harold
Reply:Clean the tips with an oxygen safe degrease.  It can be purchased here:.http://www.regulatortorchrepair.com/...safety-solvantIf the regulators have filter in the inlet nipples, you will not have a problem with dust causing an explosion.  However, dust can cause the regulator to creep, (low pressure gauge climb).  If that happen you will need to get the regulators rebuiltOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:You have to consider the oxygen pressures involved.Oil on the high pressure side of the regulator can easily cause an explosion with deadly results. This really shouldn't be handled by anyone without some training and experience, and with the proper safety solvents.Oil on the low pressure side, much less likely to explode, but still pretty kind of dangerous.Oil on the tips, which by design can't really experience that much pressure, probably not too dangerous.Cleaning with dish soap and water, and getting thoroughly dry before using should be just fine.
