Stainless with no filler

Here it is one more time.   I welded these same cupons with 101 amps, no filler both sides then got my frustrations out.   I bent it back and forth 10 or so times then pounded it with the hammer and put it in the vice.   Arcmaster 185 101 amps, 1/16 tungsten 20 cfh  Argon, #12 cup no gas lenz.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:David,The graying of your weld indicates that 101 amps was way to hot. Not a big deal for the piece of scrap you produced, but it could end up being a problem if it were that hot on a project you built for a client.Like most of the TIG weld beads you have posted, the surface texture is pretty rough too. Reply:The weld was the last one broken, not even cleaned up.  I just welded them back together, flipped em over and welded the other side, so yeah, it got hot.  All I wanted to do is show it would work with out filler.   It was even a concave bead with a Huge crater.  But still a full pen weld.  FitupLast edited by David R; 12-02-2011 at 06:35 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Keep working with pulse, the only reason it slows you down it because you haven't figured out how its supposed to be ran yet. While welding some 3" tubing  Ive ran at 4PPS and measured 3/8" between 4 pulses (4 pulses = 1 second). (.375" travel per second * 60 = 22.5IPM)  That's moving pretty damn fast for manual welding, and extremely fast for TIG.It can be a great tool to have, you just have to put the effort into learning it.Have we all gone mad?
