Made this for a lady at my church who is almost 100% wheelchair bound. She just moved to a new house and can get by with a rail until we can get her a ramp. I only made the rail that goes down the steps. The railing around the porch was already there. Attached ImagesECAVE Still learnin'Lincoln AC225Lincoln 135SPHF ChopsawVictor O/ANumerous other items
Reply:Looks like you did a good job. Did you paint it?
Reply:Is it working out okay? Hope it does. I've noticed that sooooo many things that do not strictly meet the handicrap standards are still usable. HOWEVER ... when you build the ramp, it really really works best if done to code. 1:12 slope, landings both ends, railing 1.5" diam 33" above ramp, extended 12" and returned each end.You might not have the 24' of run needed for that height. Many home retrofits like that don't. But if you make it much steeper, she won't be able to handle it alone. Here's a reasonable brief summary of the rules:http://www.mobility-advisor.com/whee...amp-specs.htmlGood luck ...
