I have a mm185 mig and would like to know how far into the 3/8" it has to penetrate to make a good weld. Do I set it real hot for that thickness and just wash over to the 1/8" ( drilled a hole in the 1/8" and stuck the heavy wall through it ) or just set it lower and weave it across both? I will be running into this kind of stuff a lot, like different thickness parent metals. mostly 1/4" and 3/16" welded to 1/8" mild steel. Any advice would be great. Also can I use 030 solid wire instead of 035? I am using 75/25 mix.Thanks.
Reply:I would set up for 3/8", start the puddle on it and wash into the 1/8" piece.I would use the .030 wire.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:Thanks for the info.  Sounds good to me. I will try it that way. I wasn't sure if I could use the 030 for the thickness, but 035 seems to put to much metal down and harder to control for me. I guess I need more practice.
