..One finally showed on CL last night about 10PM. An '08 model priced right with a nice pile of accessories including a pretty beefy 80' stick lead, nice little argon tank with regulator, cart, cups, tungstens yadda, yadda. Can't say I stole it, but I don't think I'll ever lose money on it. The cat was about 1.5 hours from here and luckily a night owl like myself. So off I went.. Cat opens the garage door to a spiffy clean setup complete with laundry and kids toys and a coupla bikes up on lifts in various states of light disassembly(I'm thinkin "too much macho TV"). The 200's runnin on 110 and is plugged in to a skinny little 50' extension cord, that's plugged into a cheesy little power strip. Homer tried to demo it in stick but couldn't get it lit. A quick inspection of the front panel, a press of the "On" button and we got hot. Struck a coupla arcs, tripped the breaker on the power strip a coupla times. OK, it's alive. But seems to work fine.. It's still under warranty till at least November. I'm gonna check and see if my instructor will let me drag it to class so I can get hands-on training with it. First job I have for it here at home is some stick on new .187 or .250 mild angle for a friend's hog traps. Any recommendations.?    d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Reply:Nice!I'm looking for one myself. Not finding much anywhere around here used, and every LWS I call cries me a river about the internet and blah, blah...I've even looked into a TA Arcmaster 185 or 200, supposedly they are excellent stick machines aswell. But I'm not getting much in the way of quotes, and when I do, it's as much or more than the Dynasty! I thought they were the economical alternative?

Reply:I ain't bashful about the price.. With the pile of little goodies that came with it and still under warranty, plus I'm pretty sure it's sat more than anything AND it was close local. While I don't think it was that great of a deal I do feel the $2250 was justified.. And ain't overly concerned if it ain't really. Now I can start obsessing on learning to weld instead of hunting and I have confidence in my gear choices. Question. I pulled off the little 110 plug that was on it and hooked up a Cooper "Welder" plug from bLowe's. I just made the connections like the ones on the Regency. White to the wide blade, Black to the skinny and green to the ground. But I'm chickenchit ta plug it in just in case there's some funk. Anything wrong with that setup.? I wanna see it alive again and get to burnin metal with some proper current.!!    d:^)  Schneeks..Steve- I'm lookin for more goodies still when I get "un-broke" again. Reply:Schnecky,On the 6-50P, I generally attach the black wire to the larger straight blade of the plug.  With 220V power it doesn't matter whether you use the black or the white.  Just make sure the black and white go to the straight plugs and green to the round (D shaped). On a 120V service the black attaches to the smaller straight blade and white (neutral) to the larger straight blade.Think you'll enjoy the Dynasty 200.  Great machine and quite portable.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:Cool deal man, you're gonna dig it.   I've had mine since '08.Honestly, I don't think the LWS does have a huge margin to deal on those, and I'm not gonna begrudge them making some money.   Competing with the online dealers is a legitimate excuse.  They don't deal in anywhere near the same quantities, thus can't give the same deals.   I paid a little more for mine from the local shop than what I would have paid through Ind. Oxy. or like places, but the deal has more than paid for itself with perks from the LWS.....They do have a margin on gas, and being an authorized Miller repair shop they've hooked me up with service as well.    Just my experience, but paying 100 bucks more up front has already saved me a few times that on the back end.browndogwelding.com@welderassassinMy Blog on The Fabricatorfacebook.com/BrownDogWelding
Reply:Jdustu- Agreed.. If I can get it from the LWS without hurting myself I'll do it. But being what I am, I'll always look for a used deal. They're usually very close to online prices and actually beat places like Harbor Freight by a good bit on some consumables. I.e.- Aluminum 4043 1# rolls are $29 at HF, but they're only $7 at Machine & Welding Supply. They were about the same on sticks and FC wire.LWS gets most else if they're even close to net prices.. There are percs..    d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:Regarding the Black wire and the White wire: Wire up the Black to Large blade as Sundown mentioned because down the road iffin' you want to make a Pigtail to run it on 120v the wiring will be correct for the Neutral.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
