Almost there!

About a month ago I was coming up on being unemployed for almost 6 months. I decided to take a short 40 hr welding course offered by my unions training center. I absolutely loved it! My instructors were pulling me out of the booth for breaks. I exceeded the duty cycle on the 300 miller several times. It was all 7018 & 6011 stick on 1/8 - 3/8" steel. I was sold and started to look for a machine. I ended up with a 1999 miller 250 syncroweld out of a school in P.A. I have been digging ditches and running conduit/cable in all my spare time to get this unit up and running. I'm glad to say the wiring is just about done. I just need to get some lug ends to hook up to the machine. I'll still need a bottle and flow meter for tig but I'll get there.I was able to keep a couple of my 1/8 galvanized to 1/8 mill steel practice pieces. I have a long way to go but having my own setup should help a great deal.Gizzmo Attached Images

Reply:gizzmoYou have a 'much above average' starter machine.To expedite the machines potential acquire a copy of:The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding, by Lincoln Electric, available new at your LWS, or on the Web.  Decades old editions are cheap, and still pertinent. It's the most information, for the least expenditure.Opus

Reply:GizzmoCurrent is the Fourteenth, Amazon lists new for $89.50, and 7 used from $14.75.  Go no older than the Twelfth - 1973, it answers most of the questions asked on this forum.Opus

Reply:I'M THERE !The power is done and it's time to learn/play! The cable are too short as I can hardly get out of the shed but I just had to run a few beads to see if I have a good machine. took a bit to get it set up but I got it kind of close anyway.
