Guy comes in my shop and says he has some metal to sell me. I go out to see what he has and picked up 100 sticks for a buck each. They are 4' 1.25x1.25" ( I think) and around 1/8-3/16" thick. Like I said I have 100 of them all the same. There are about 5 1/8" holes down the one side of every stick. Not to bad, could be welded up if need be. Each stick has a coating as well which would have to be cleaned where welding but keep the sticks in good condition while they sit.

Reply:I do have a metal storage problem. I have always wished I could clean up this mess and I have tried a couple times to organize it a bit. But after a little while the pile grows, flows out of the crates and boxes and it is just a mess. It is mainly the tubes and bends that take up the most room and make the mess. This pic here is just the small sections of left overs and stuff. I have boxes and boxes of new bends in tubing and whatnot on the shelves.Any ideas on organizing this kind of stuff? Space is at a premium around here.

I am a conservative type and normally save things like this for nice projects that I will get much enjoyment or use out of. Not just whip something together just because I can. At the same time I don't mind wasting a few sticks on some random project or off the wall idea but not the whole pile.
Reply:Lots of those ideas went threw my head already. A go cart for the kids would be interesting! But I can see that costing me lots more money for a motor, drive system, axles, tires, and whatnot. But I like hearing the ideas!
Reply:Did you say go cart? How about one that goes 90 mph? Sorry for the crappy pics, they are pics of pics, my scanner is broken. Attached Images

Reply:@ VPT - EveryThing. Nice score. Consider inside projects (eg. tables, kids furniture, end tables, shelves) and/or gift "ideas" for the Holidays. Gift the custom as-builts to local schools, shelters, churches, etc. People really respond to home-built worx. Reply:If they were mine I would be building a set of saw horses to work off of. Also some pipe stands to work off of. Anything to make my life easier. They would be perfect length too , not much waste. |
