I am about to order a new syncrowave and would like to know what else you guys would get and where? I plan on getting a cooling unit eventually but probably not right off the bat. any advice or whatever you got please let me know, I am a BEGINNER when it comes to the tig world for sure.JerodHypertherm 30Miller Syncrowave 200Millermatic 140and a propane torch and hanger if all else fails
Reply:The first thing I would order (before the machine) is a copy of Miller's Student Pack.If you go to Millerwelds.com and click on the "Resources" tab, you can then scroll down to their offer for the Student Pack.  It's $25 including shipping and includes an excellent Tig Handbook, a GMAW Handbook, a GMAW-P handbook, welding calculators, and a bunch of other useful stuff.  Best money you'll ever spend in welding.Factual information, not like a bunch of the BS "advice" you see on message boards (like your comment about pulsing being really effective on aluminum---wrong)If more posters would just do a "little research" on their own, we'd have a lot less bad advice posted on the boards.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I got a lot of books there bud, so I was wrong about the pulsing. Like I said in that thread I am no expert about tig nor do I play one on TV. So get off your high horse. Oh and I have done plenty of research on the welders I just wanted some advice from guys that tig all the time on what accessories to be looking at. again thanks for your deep in sight Originally Posted by SundownIIIThe first thing I would order (before the machine) is a copy of Miller's Student Pack.If you go to Millerwelds.com and click on the "Resources" tab, you can then scroll down to their offer for the Student Pack.  It's $25 including shipping and includes an excellent Tig Handbook, a GMAW Handbook, a GMAW-P handbook, welding calculators, and a bunch of other useful stuff.  Best money you'll ever spend in welding.Factual information, not like a bunch of the BS "advice" you see on message boards (like your comment about pulsing being really effective on aluminum---wrong)If more posters would just do a "little research" on their own, we'd have a lot less bad advice posted on the boards.
Reply:Books are only good when you READ THEM.If you had/read the Tig Handbook I referenced, you'd understand the different accessories available, and how they are used to enhance your work.I guess I'm getting too old for the "New Generation Smart Mouth Punks" who expect everyone to "spoon feed" them.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I think SundownIII meant well.He was trying to help you not waste your money. You did not say which Syncrowave you would be buying. You did not tell us the type of work you would be doing, or your interests.IF you do get that Syncrowave The first thing I would be thinking about is a water cooler and a water cooled torch. Thats just me. Accessories? that could mean a cart for it??? A cloth cover????But it just depends how much welding you will be doing and what thicknesses of metals . Aluminum or steel?AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:The two biggest helps to me in learning to tig weld is getting a size 9 torch with a gas lens and viewing the videos on the www.weldingtipsandtricks.com site. The gas lens allows you to stick the electrode much further out which helped me to see the weld puddle better. The videos let you see what the tig process should look like. These two things helped me more than any thing else
Reply:Just got to say this....SundownIII did you see his Avatar???  LOL.....lol...lolI'll be laughing about this all day to myself.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 02-17-2011 at 02:25 PM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:I actually have a pretty good idea of what accessories I want, however I wanted to hear from people who do this on a everyday bases. Not from a company trying to sell you more stuff. I am definitely not a new generation either, maybe I took your comment the wrong way, maybe not it just seemed a little insulting. and I am not wanting spoon fed either as I am just looking for some info before I sink a little money in to something. Most forums I am on that is what the more knowledgeable guys do. but hey run your boat how you want.
