What to do with these

I came across 7 large steel balls.  They are used for rock crushing in mills.  They are each about the size of a baseball and I have been trying to think of what to do with them for fun.  (they look like in pic attached) So I thought I would see what you guys came up with.  A mace would be fun but I moved away from that.  I am thinking of building a Newtons Cradle  that would be huge for my desk just because it would be so over the top. http://www.officeplayground.com/Newt...inch-P160.aspxAnyone have any good ideas? Reply:I used to haul iron after it was run thru a ball mill. It started off as iron shavings/borings, and ended up like iron baby powder. It was mixed with wood shavings in a field. Then was watered and churned/plowed with a farm tractor, for about a month. The finished product was used to filter natural gas. I used to get those balls all the time. I think I still have a few smaller ones. I never knew they were used for rock. I can't think of any uses for pulverized/powdered rock. And talk about a LOUD process!!!They would be great for going thru a car window after some jackwaggon almost causes you an accident. Reply:Have been told that it crushes ore for extracting copper around here and also for limestone to get cement.  Dont know for sure tho.Yeah, betting would make a great bouncing ball if someone gets to close to me on my harley,,, but only a theory.Just looking for something fun to do with them

Reply:I have a bunch of those laying somewhere behind the garage, Used to be used in the taconite mills up here but they have all pretty much gone to rod mills. Basically replaced the balls with 20-30' 2-4" diameter steel rods. Rock goes in one end and very fine powder and tailings comes out the other, then its on to mag seperation

Reply:the newton's cradle was the first thing that came to mind for me. but the novelty is almost to obvious. you could make an oversized lazy susan for your monitor. drill a couple holes in one and use it as a pen holder. Paint one to look like a baseball and see how long it takes for someone to break their wrist trying to hit the thing.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Ive got a couple hundred of them. All rusty. I set up a smal mechanism to facet them.  They are really tough to drill. they seem to weld alright but I never tested them for strength  I'm going to build a ball mill to crush gold ore. Around here there is a lot of gold ore, but very little gold. Mac.
Reply:Stick-man,crushed stone makes an excellent base layer for a patio.  Instead of washing away like sand, it turns to clay and gets hard-keeps bricks and flagstone from cracking.As for the OP, how about a hybrid idea.  Weld two balls to piece of chain, then stick THAT in a cannon!
