I posted previously and got no replies. Went ahead with the job anyways, and the results have been mixed. Would anyone like info about this stuff? Or does anyone have experience they would like to share? It seems not one person on this entire website has.... I'd hate to think my job is really that high profile lol

Reply:It does indeed. Seems quite similar to ER NiCrMo-10. Its very difficult wire to set up and weld with.... Our procedure calls for GMAW-P, and the new miller invision machines have very limited settings for pulse unlike the esab aristo series. But anyways I've noticed this wire tends to be very "wet" and hard to control. would not recommend 100% argon as shielding gas, it sucks lol. 75he/25ar seems to be the nicest gas. It still tends to scallop the top edge of the weld if you're not careful with settings. I don't really know else to say about this stuff. Any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated if anyone wants to share.

Reply:Haven't had experience on anything but mild steel and aluminum but I'd like to hear about it.All information is good information.
Reply:If it's like other similar alloys, your gas should have 1 - 2% CO2 in it. Will help puddle wet-out and improve bead appearance.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:A glue gun? Why on earth would I be using one of those?

Reply:Ah I see, never heard anyone use that term for it before.
Reply:also with mig on that alloy versus tig the gas mixtures are totally different ... so i am of no real help since i do not mig these kind of alloys what are you doing for surface prep  ?If i would have to guess from what you posted was happening would be to lower you helium % add in a lil c02 under 2% or O2 under 1.5%also messing with the Pulse on time and % will help stiffen up the puddle along with inductance ( Do not know what machine you are running)  miller pipepro panasonic or some other machineLast edited by WeldorWes; 07-23-2013 at 01:49 AM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:This stainless is used when sulfuric acid is in contact with the metal. It is a Propietery austenitic stainless.  "designer alloy " if you will.IT is a nickel alloy. Carlson company. Trade names don't help.Does it have a ASTM number?IF you give us the ASTM number we can help you more.ASTM B729, B464, B366, B463, B473, B462 Which one?????????Last edited by Donald Branscom; 07-24-2013 at 10:44 PM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:20CB-3 Stainless is called Alloy 20.  It is in the P45 group per ASME Section IX.  The filler metal is ER320LR (SFA-5.9).  You sould be able to use an Argon cover gas and an Argon backing gas with no problems.
Reply:For TIG, yes, but the OP is talking about pulse MIG. Argon-helium blends with 1 - 2% CO2 are recommended for GMAW of similar alloys.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Its ASTM B-463 UNS 8020. aka alloy 20 or carpenter 20. Donald, you are correct, they are flash tank seperators used for sulfuric acid. The 75ar/25he was hit and miss, but was also mixed manually rather than out of a pre mixed bottle. Haven't tried running it with that yet. The day shift guy I follow has used the above mentioned tri mix with spectacular results. However thats also against procedure so eff that. Wookie, everything is being welded with a miller invision 450 mpa, a very nice machine. But the parameters of adjustability is limited compared to the esab aristos we have laying around. I'm going to continue tomorrow and pics will be posted soon for judgment and criticism
Reply:Same as NiCrFe i believe... 3/32 should be 50-70A... WPS: 43-43-SM-AW-1/2Sal
