Henrob pressure settings

New guy here. Been lurking here for a bit.I have a henrob torch and had a question about setting the pressure on the torch. I follow their recommendations. Thing is I have 4psi with the #3 tip and torch burning. When I turn the torch off the acetylene pressure pegs the gauge. Is the 4psi suppose to be with the torch burning, or off? Or do I have a regulator going bad. Once I relit it, I need to let it burn for about 30 seconds as the flame changes until the pressure drop back down to the ~4psi I set it at. The OA setup is the little kit from home depot. Havent messed with it for a couple years. Now I am able to start playing again and wondering if the reg could be going out.If they are going any suggestions for a good setup? cutlikeplasma site has a special regulator that is suppose to work well with the lower pressures needed. Are there any alternatives? Is it really needed? Thanks
Reply:Sounds like you have a bad regulator and a VERY dangerous situation.Although I don't have a Henrob torch (so this is just an example), with a Victor #1 tip and the pressure at 4psi while open, the pressure doesn't rise above 6psi when I stop the flow.The acetylene pressure should NEVER be allowed to rise above 15psi.  Period.  If you shut your torch, and it keeps creeping up, close the tank valve, and get your regulator serviced or replaced.
Reply:Dillon/Henrob/DHC pressures are not critical......its a marketing ploy. Too low of pressure and you cant feed the tip orfice, too high and the valves are touchy. Remember, the valves control the volume of gas flow. Anything in the 2-10 psi range is fine, normally around 2-5 is preferred for the tip sizes you are using.
