Reply:arc gouging is fun! i had to gouge the backstrap off my plate in school to do my bend sample. a little loud
Reply:Yeah. I have done a couple of those as well. What did you cert in when you did your bend sample?
Reply:im still in school for it i just finished up first semester. i did 1g and 2g with a E7018 on 1/4"

Reply:Yeah. Air/arc is a good tool. I have a real love/hate relationship with it. 90% of the bad crater burns I've gotten have been from arc gouging. The crap tends to get everywhere. One time a nasty little devil went down the back of my jacket, from another welder that was gouging 50 ft away.That's nice work there. The inside buildup looks real slick.

Reply:I had to gouge a 2.5" baseplate off a freeway sign bridge once because a fitter messed up clocking the bolt holes. The fillet weld was over an inch thick when you count the full pen backing ring. It was fun for 5 minutes.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com |
