Building a car for a customer, here is the rear end. Started with a truck housing and narrowed it 6". Housing end to end is 51.312. I put two passes on the housing. I actually took the picture for HTP because they sent me a t shirt. Third member will be a strange 9", daytona pinion support, detroit locker, and some wimpy ratio Attached ImagesHTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
Reply:My last gear set was a Strange set. I haven't busted them yet. Nice weld by the way.
Reply:Where did you cut the tubes, out at the backing plates or near the meat ball. did you extract the tubes from the housing or cut flush and but weld back? Curious about this type of work would like more details on the procedure. TIG work looks nice. will you be cutting and resplining the axles or replacing with shorter units?"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400

Reply:Looks good but one thing..How do you know the bearing housings are true with the axle if you don't have the axles? With no jig...........?We use the center section as a guide..Juts wonderin'........zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Seeing as the third member housing is in place, I'd say fordman used the typical alignment thru bar and "bearing" blocks in the housing bearing saddles and end flanges. Not my project and this one shows reusing the stock ends but this how they work.Last edited by duaneb55; 12-27-2011 at 06:32 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Yeah I just spun some bushings to mount into the center as a dummy bearing and also on the housing ends. And just used a 1.250 ground bar to align everything.HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
Reply:Nice little project. What's the rear end going in? I narrowed a 9" once. Its so much cheaper than buying one from currie. Mine is going in a 1968 cougar. I re-welded the seams cause factory welds just suck and look ugly. Attached ImagesMiller Dynasty 200Millermatic 211Instagram?.... find me @ WELD_MEDIC
Reply:Nice looking housing man. Mine is going in a 65 mustang. Wish I had some pictures of the grand national style floater housing I built for my race car. I may build a new one out of chromoly to try and cut down on the weight. My last one was total overkill.HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Idealarc SP250Miller 180 AC StickBy farmall:They should have held the seagull closer to the work, squeezing evenly for best deposition.
