hey guys im a assistant production manager at a shop in nyc non-union but the company isn't that small we do jobs for millions of dollars all the time.My question is this year i been really putting in a lot of work an i run the shop an do all of the special work for my boss and he's been really telling me how good of job i have been doing an he doesn't even have to touch anything anymore. Im looking for a raise this year and i was wondering about how much do assistant production managers get paid.  I make $20 a hour right now an i been with them for 3 years and i feel i should at least get $25 because i order supplies for the shop, set up all the machines for the workers, instruct them on a daily basis, if something is wrong its on my shoulders an also if things dont get done on time. so i was just wondering what's the average salary ??
Reply:Whatever they feel like paying you is what you make.Don't take it the wrong way but there is 30 guys without a job that would do the job for less and trust me they are out there..So quit whining and take it to management. Why have us determine how much you should make....?Nobody here makes what they are really worth and that's the way it is.Myself included....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:REAZ, that is a tough question. I suppose a part of it depends on what benefits you get, what hours you work, etc. I do not think your position is unreasonable. How to get there; that is the question!!!Good luck. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Its hard to pick a number I was in nj making 25 dollars a hour full paid benfits cutting glass and talking to people at 21 years old  and had a company car every other shop In same area SAME job worker would have made 15-18dollars no car to drive around. .when I started my own company I made more money with 2-3 works and doing small jobs, then with a bunch of workers taking on huge jobs, more waste and issues popped up.I would talk to owners nicely  there  Just make sure its not when a big job is mesed or some other crazy issue popped up its all about timing
Reply:Do you bring in new work?  Meaning how much do you help increase their revenue?People who bring in revenue are in the best postion to get more income and have more job stability. In this market I'd tread lightly on requesting an increase. Every situtation is different so there is no way we can advise you on what you should or shouldn't make. Some bosses like having someone do all their work, but they may start getting nervous that they are expendible if you can do their job. Does your company have a employee review schedule? If not, think about asking for one so you can get those postitive comments in writing. That might help get an increase.  Also, your chances are better if the company is doing well. Try to get your review right after they get a big job or new client and everyone is in a good mood.Timing matters.Good luck. Sounds like you are on the right path.

Reply:In my opinion, the title doesnt mean a thing.  Im a labor and I make $20 + /hr. Not in a union either. Piece working I can double and triple my wages but that only lasts as long as the project takes.Keep a daily journal of your achievements, improvements and overall production or whatever a Production Manager Assistant does. It should all be about how you are making more money for your employer than for yourself. When you think you have enough accomplishments and deserve a raise, then go talk to the boss.  Dont be offended when they laugh at you for asking for a 25% raise tho. Also, dont try to text and ask for a raise, Bosses will have more respect for you and are more likely to give you a raise if you confront them face to face and remember as said already; Timing is important. Monday mornings are probably not the best time. Im not sure Fridays are either. Good luck and be happy with a 5-10% raise or else;  go look for another place to work that pays more.Last edited by Insaneride; 08-17-2013 at 05:06 PM.
